So I'm thinking of buying a Wii U (preowned for cheap) but anyways are there any homebrew for Wii U mode (so no vWii I already know of that)? And if so is it full kernel access or only userland? I have previous homebrew experience with 3DS and Wii, but I'm brand new to wii u. Could someone fill me in about safest and latest firmwares, if CFWs are possible, etc. Thanks.

Hello.
CFWs aren't possible on the Wii U.
Kernel exploits works up to 5.4.0.

5.5.0 and 5.5.1 has only userland and very limited.

Safest firmware to stay on is 5.3.2.

I'm pretty sure it's on 5.4. If you get a >=5.5 Wii U tho, just change the settings so it blocks updates and don't update it. Just stay determined and be patient. Something will be released.

Ahh cool, actually my friend hasn't used his wii for the last 1.5 years apparently its been sitting there for a long time so I'm buying it off him for $50 AUD amazing deal wii u the 32 gb one. So I'm hoping it will have >5.5

Thanks for the help people!

That is indeed a nice deal! I'd recommend that you test it first without being connected to the internet just to make sure everything works.

Yes of course I will test it to see if everything works fine and he's also giving me Nintendo Land with it so I'll try that as well. He's actually over seas so I'm going to have to wait a bit till he gets back.

Don't forget that if the WiiU is under 5.3.2 the only way you have to update it to 5.3.2 is buying a game that contain the good version.
Do not update using system settings or you will be in 5.5.1

Ohhh so there's a minimum system firmware version required? Dayum.... I'll see to that. But no I wasn't gonna update using system settings it would obviously take me to latest version. I'll have to research into that...

I need help. I want to hax n stuff but I'm too lazy to read the stickies even after being directed to do so. I want you to hold my hand and answer all my questions 3 times over because life should give you everything a silver platter. This is getting so old.

Loadiine work on 4.x but could be unstable, not recommended.

Loadiine GX2 is currently compatible with
WiiU v4.1.0 (NOT all games are working with 4.x)
WiiU v5.0.0
WiiU v5.1.0
WiiU v5.3.2
WiiU v5.4.0

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna go to EB Games (what Gamestop is called is Australia) to try out their preowned discs as they have lots and are quite cheap and I can easily return them.

Don't buy any game until you know what firmware version your Wii U is on. And yeah, Kafluke has a point. Everything is in the stickies. It's recommended reading anyways, so that you know what you're doing and don't mess up.

What are you even complaining about? Shitposting and rage on newbies (yeah, that one) and in return the confusion from them has been going back the last week IMMENSELY, which is an awesome change of pace, so why not cut them some slack and simply don't answer a threadtype that takes up less then 15% of the frontpage, aye, mate?

But hory shito, @Wizardkoer, that really is a mighty fine deal. Let me/us know how it turned out for you. Really somewhat interested to follow it.
