Nintendo's odd censorship....

So in a bizarre move, Nintendo censored Peach's panties out of the 3DS version of Smash Bros, but NOT the Wii U version.

Considering that a large portion of 3DS gamers, particularly ones that play Smash Bros, are adults, I find it odd that Nintendo would do this. Children play the Wii U more than the 3DS, right? It's more family-oriented, anyway. They're just panties, jeez.

But I digress. Behold, THE VOID.

the fact is that the 3ds into media is seen as a console for kids only.

You have a point there. As I was saying, the Wii U is considered more kid-friendly than the 3DS, but it is true that the 3DS is marketed primarily to children.

It's not a matter of liberal vs conservative in video game censorship battles, honestly. It's a matter of what we as a society deem taboo compared to the rest of the world. The USA is the most repressed society when it comes to sexuality. Sure, we have shows like Game of Thrones where you're guaranteed to see tits at least once an episode. Look at Japan, sex is everywhere and they're so blase about it.

So, can you actually see her panties in Japanese copies of Smash? To me it just looks like they didn't bother modeling them in the 3DS version since Smash already takes quite a toll on the 3DS so they decided to leave such a pointless detail out.
