So yesterday I uncarted my friends Pokemon Y game to a .3ds rom, and then converted it to a CIA file, and then installed it on my o3DS.
So the problem is: His region is U, my region is E.
I have AuReiNand + A9LH, so I can play games region free. But as it now asks for an update. If i recon, updates are region specific too, rite? So I was stuck in a situation whether to update the USA game from my EUR console.
What now?
And also, can I go online from that game?
Can I register that game on my PGL Account? He has registered his cart version game on PGL already.
I expect answers. Thank you in advance.

The Pokemon CIAs should be region free. The update from your region should work, just download it and give it a shot.

I'm wondering, why did you do that? You know there are pokemon cias that are legit and region free, you wouldnt have problem with them or waste your time searching for the U update and then installing it to your system (also, remember the rumors about getting banned if you play out of region games online)

Well you should do it, if it's hosted on mega it will take no time at all. The long wait is when you start the installation of that thing.

Not everyone has a download speed above 1MB/s

The speed of my university internet sucks so bad, but i've managed to download big sized games from there thanks to mega. You know, mega doesn't limite your download speed like other file hosts, so it's still a good option.
The download speed is not my worry, my data limit is.
Oh, that would be a problem. Why don't you tell your friend to download it for you? Or maybe use a computer from a cafe or somewhere else.

It was NOT a legit CIA, I dumped it from a USA game. I fear getting banned.
Can I go online with it? Can I register it on my PGL?
Even so, the Pokemon games of each region share the same title ID, I still think your region update will work.

If your ISP gives you a download speed of lets say 500 kb/s, you're stuck at 500 kb/s no matter what you do.
Some ISPs also have data limits (which is pretty stupid these days..) so you can't do to much on the web.

You sure? I wanna be sure before doing anything
They have a different serial, but the title ID is the same. I can't say I'm certain since I've not tried it. You should go into your eShop and see if there's an update available. If there is, download it and see if it works. If not, then I'm wrong.

k, it still isnt that bad. If you have under 100kb/s then you're screwed.

I had a time where I had a download speed of 10 kb/s with a max of 20.
I did everything I could, triple checked the wiring, replaced router, called multiple times with me ISP.

Anyway, go prevent further derailing of this thread.

To me knowledge, the title ID of the cart is the same for the region free cia's, save games can be transferred to the cia so updates also should apply.

Your isp should be paying you for that kind of service and speed lol.

just to clarify the pokemon games (well at least the main ones, not the puzzle games) are actually the exact same version for all regions, even retail carts, for this reason you can even insert a out of region cart on your system and it would show up unlike any other game which ordinarily would just not show up, the only reason why the retail cart fails to launch on a out of region system is that the update check fails as the update on the cart is out of region....other than the update the game is exactly the same for all regions, and seeing as cia files do not come with updates the actual version users buy from the eshop is region free

TLDR: pokemon is by default region free when installed as a cia, just go grab the update from the eshop and it will work fine
