Reasons I would drop 180$ on a FF7 remake

I've been doing some thinking, and I feel that if SE is going to ask for 180$ for a remake, what would make me buy it and be OK with the price? Here's a list of added features I would like to see.
1. The word is that gameplay will be real-time battle. I'm ok with this as long as the system is reflective of traditional JRPG gameplay. As in complex button combos aren't necessary, and a large amount of atk/def options are available, along with some form of formation adjustments. However it would be nice for us purists to be able to enjoy the game in the traditional turn based format also. Having 2 gameplay options would also increase replay value.
2. A nicely re-imagined/expanded materia system. The original game was extremely entertaining when it came to the materia system for me. I could spend days experimenting with different combinations, in different weapons and gauntlets/bracelets. If they could keep true to the original concept, but add more materia to play with, I'd love it. Even implementing it into a real-time battle shouldn't be that far fetched. Counter paired with Ultima would simply mean that if MP requirements were met, and a character was struck, they would immediately respond with Ultima.
3. More Limit Breaks, for everyone. Even Vincent. The original had a great limit break system, and I had a great time collecting the final options for every character. Maybe keep them as the final options, as most of them were quite worthy as a final ability. But add more to collect that aren't quite as powerful but fun to use. Again, not hard to implement in real-time battle. Just another atk option once the gauge is filled.
4. A side arc to experience Jenovas clash with the Ancients. While the original gave great detail on what happened, it would just be fun to play through it.
5. A very increased content level at the Gold Saucer. I enjoyed playing the mini-games there, and if the experience was broadened it could add quite a bit of end game playability. Hell, make an online feature that allows you to compete against other players in the snowboard/Chocobo races. This brings me to idea number...
6. A fully customizable, online Battle Arena feature. Imagine being able to build your own 10 round arena challenge. Selecting where you start, adjusting limitations for each round(status effect inflicted, time limit, etc) and also choosing what enemies you face and the atk patterns they utilize. Now, imagine everyone else doing it and posting their challenge online for you to try.
7. PvP? I'm not sure on this one, but if you have real-time battles It'd be cool to have some PvP features.
8. More Weapons to fight. This is pretty self explanatory for anyone who played the original. After defeating Ruby and Emerald, I was clamoring for more.
9. More weapons/armor/accessories.Again pretty much self explanatory. The 3 equip options worked for me. Kept it simple and forced you to strategize your materia situation. Maybe add a 4th choice to improve it a bit, but keep it simple more than anything.
10. Just don't F*** it up by trying to give me some "artistic interpretation" of the original game. Stick to the Go***mn script, and add/SLIGHTLY modify, but don't take away/censor. You'll alienate your longtime fans who are counting on this to be another great experience in a world we fell in love with.

I'd love to hear some feedback/suggestions!!

180 USD???!?! No freakin way would I pay that much for a game, unless it was a really kickass limited edition one with tons of crap in it that'll eventually make you realise that you spent 120-140 dollars more for some weird toys and paper.

Well, I spent much more for City of Heroes in the 5 years I played that. I don't mind dropping large sums of cash for a gaming experience. But it better have a hell of a lot of worthwhile, entertaining gameplay.

180..Shit. If I was going to spend that much on a damn game, I'd just buy a New 3DS, fix that shit up, and get 100 games for free. But, if you like FF7 so much...yeah..A limited edition version would be nice. That's the only time I'd buy it.

$ 180 on a game is absurd. Even if it was one of the greatest games, it's still absurd. If you're a collector then go for it but if you're not, then prepare for some regrets you might have later on.

Rich... hardly.
Impulsive and irrational....Definitely.

I've dropped ridiculous amounts of money on really trivial things before. From gaming to house decor, I've bought some really dumb things. This... I guess I've been wanting it so bad for so long, that if it happened to meet my expectations I don't think I'd regret it tbh. Not to mention that when I'm done with it, I could probably just post a for sale on CL or EBay for all 3 copies, and get at least half my money back.

I'd say just wait for reviews before buying it. It's better that you don't lose any money at all

Man, you ain't lying. I'd hate to buy the first issue(I am assuming this will be a SE money grab) and find out it's pure garbage. I agree. Problem is, I suspect they'll churn this out in 3 parts or more. And if they do it like that, but it's quality, I can't see not committing to the entire series. It's such a dick move on their part to do it this way. I'd love to stand firm and say no to the money hungry ethics behind it. I just know myself, and if it's staring me in the face, with good reviews, I just don't see myself exercising restraint lol.

I'm in the keep it simple stupid or if it ain't broke, don't fix it camp myself. I can deal with a re-imagining but the episodic crap, if it turns out to be the case(haven't been keeping up) then I have no interest in the remake and won't pay a dime for it. SE is no Squaresoft.

Care to explain what you've contributed here other than a lame attempt at an insult and a snide, sarcastic remark?

Hmmm,... I see asking for an elaboration resulted in more mud-slinging. I applaud your genius...

Why FF VII? What about FF VI?
Tbh, I never had the opportunity to play through 6 til I was an adult. Definitely enjoyed it though. I enjoyed every FF title actually up until X-2.

After what SE did to that AWFUL mobile "remake" I don't want them to ever touch FFVI again tbh. The original version is still beautiful today, especially on a tube or with a good emulator shader and there are so many translations and other hacks available that while a GOOD remake would be sweet, SE is, in my opinion, incapable of doing that masterpiece justice. Same goes for Chrono Trigger.

FF4DS was a very rare anomaly.

People do forget we have games, which cost monthly fees (not to mention the freemium business model). $180 can easily be had with World of Warcraft.

As for FFVII and spending $180 for it, I would find a lot of games easily worth more than the $60 they cost at launch regardless of the quality of an FFVII remake. You don't need to play a remake to get a good game. Just look at games like The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain. Both are stellar games and can be said to be worth the $60 (or even less) it cost at launch. But if you have extra to spend, $180 may not be bad for an FFVII remake if you like it :)

I'm curious as to why you think SE would ask for that much. Are they going to release it in episodes?

As for your suggestions, I can't really say much. FF just isn't my sort of game. But I sort of feel that the changes you want may go directly against what another fan will want (or won't even be compatible with other requests on your own list). And that means there'll be disappointment if you go expect too much. Yes, I know: 180 bucks is a lot. But this isn't about money but about games not being able to be tailormade to suit the likes of one individual rather than a group of fans.

EDIT: and...probably off-topic, but I'll mention it nonetheless. I recently played that Abe's oddyssey remake. It's in most aspects a great game. But the camera angles just ruined it for me. I ended up just starting to play the original instead. I'm still glad I have the game and it's remade (it's one of MY all time favorite games), but it's more of a "I have that game!" than me actually wanting to play it.
