Yes, absolutely recommend A9LH.

Pros: 8-second boot up, discreet (if you want), ability to move emunand to sysnand and delete it from your sd card, ability to unbrick sysnand (eliminating the need for emunand), 100% boot rate

Cons: Gateway isn't supported (yet) unless you make a separate 9.2 emunand specifically dedicated to booting it. They have announced that they will support it in the upcoming update, though. Additionally, the setup takes about 2-3 hours. As a Gateway user, I think it's worth it though. (If not, at least set up Menuhax on a 9.2 sysnand to boot into an updated emunand. It's a good alternative with a decent boot success rate)

There are about a thousand threads like this already...

Gateway is a CFW. The only real difference is it requires you to have the red card installed to boot and the ability to play .3ds files.

If you already have menuhax installed download AuReiNand and boot it from menuhax. Gateway and almost every other CFW use the same emunand so you will not have to change anything. If you decide that you like AuReinand after using it for a while(you will). Then look into A9LH.

Think of A9LH as an advanced menuhax only it does not rely on a 9.2 sysnand so it can be upgraded. It will boot directly into emunand when you turn on your system. Or with AuReinand you can get rid of emunand completely and have all of the features work on sysnand. I personally still use emunand with a 9.2 sysnand. I like the safety of it.

Give the AuReiNand thread a read. It will answer most of your questions.

The other *big* difference is that it plays .3ds files that are stored on the Gateway-internal memory card, which you just copy over.

And I agree with most, just wait to see what GW comes up with for A9LH, but that is the "golden exploit" right now and will take MSET's throne in terms of reliability/success rate.

Gateway owner here who is happy with their purchase and ability to play .3ds/z files. I will also be waiting :)
I have a Gateway card and all three versions of Sky3DS. I almost never use them now. They do come in handy when installing A9LH on new systems because I have cubic ninja for every region and I do not have to inject anything into the health and safety apps. Honestly for Gateway I got tired of always having to go to my internet browser or system settings to get into emunand. Menuhax was a huge leap forward for them but I didn't like the boot rate.

When they do release a A9LH entry point I think their product will be more competitive. Their region free works better than the rest. If they could fix the eshop on region changed systems they would be well above everyone else.

AuReiNand doesn't support 10.7?

Agreed about flashcards being handy for a9lh installation! I did a9lh install back when the first tutorials were starting to emerge, I, like many others, forgot the part where you need a CIA installer at some stage. So i just inserted red card, boot gateway mode and run devmenu from multirom menu. Saved me an hour of back-tracking :D

EDIT: 1000th post!

As the title asks, should I install a CFW instead of relying on Gateway/MenuHaxLoader? What are the pros and cons of CFW/A9LH?

As others have said, you should probably just wait till GW releases the A9LH plugin so your GW can take advantage of the quick boot time. I assume they will have a plugin so you can turn your 3ds on, and within seconds the dragon will display and you will boot right into emunand in GW mode. (With 100% bootrate)

You can still try out CFW to see the pros and cons yourself. One thing you will notice right away that installing CIA's is very time consuming compared to just copying files over like you do with your GW. With CFW, you still have to copy everything over, but then you have to install it on the 3DS on top of it, so it winds up being 4+ times more time consuming then just copying and playing like you get with the GW.. It really all depends on how you use your 3DS. If you are an online player, I believe CFW has an edge in that regard. If you play the same things for months and don't change things much, then you might not mind CFW. If you do allot of changing of games and don't play online, you might like GW a heck of allot more. (My case)

Wait, with GW you don't have to install CIAs?!

But all the DLC and updates I download are in CIA format. Can't get them working otherwise.
Games can be in the .3ds/.3dz format if you keep them on the red card but updates and DLC have to be .cia and installed with fbi or similar manager.

Yeah, though someone was suggesting with Gateway you don't have to install them...
I was reading some of the posts you made in the AuReiNand thread. A CFW other than Gateway is really only usable if you install your games in .cia format. If that is not something you want to do then I would just wait for gateway to support A9LH, if that is something you are still interested in. However if you are happy with menuhax I see no reason why you should change.
