It didn't really happen to me, unless you count some pretty snoopy students at middle school, which is normal I guess.
Seriously though, I don't let those kind of things happen to me. I will kill that person if I have to :3

The only time I caught someone stealing something of mine in front of me, I remember hitting them badly.

I hate violence and I'm against hurting people. But they deserved it.

That was a very long time ago, I was in high school. They thought it was a good idea to take my personal papers and my school bag.

I also still have this backpack, I always keep it with me, wherever I go.

There were a bunch of idiots at schools which stole things, including my little wallet and keys thing when I did not plan far enough ahead to escape sports day*, and it would have been more hassle than it is worth to stripe them up (I had to live in the same town as them after all).

*amateur hour over here went to the registration before the event and did not lie when quizzed on what I was doing.

I once had someone break into my room and steal a laptop and phone, was annoying dealing with insurance but ultimately got a better laptop out of the deal (computers were still advancing at a considerable rate at this point in time) and have never cared about mobile phones anyway.

Someone tried to mug me once (a tiny woman with a nasty dog), I had nothing on me so I lost nothing other than an afternoon going to hospital and more money than I cared to spend on toilet paper (hospital gave me a course of broad spectrum antibiotics for the dog bites, such things do not do well for your digestive system).

Some kids on train tried it on once. I did actually give them some shrapnel as I had my rent for three months hidden on me (was heading to pay it after I did something else) and that would probably have ended in a proper fight if they had tried to search me (a popular thing for would be muggers to ask in that city apparently) and shattering a kid's knee would probably have been hard to explain to the judge, as it stands I lost some shrapnel that would have gone in the pot that I have to this day full of change I never use where having to go to court and give police statements would have been a pain.

A few people tried pickpocketing me but living in a the kind of charming place that saw the above happen (other than school all that was over the course of two years) also made me a master of spotting junkies and pickpockets so it did not end with anything good for them. The police never seem to care so I do not bother take it any further than protecting me. The best one I ever saw there was someone dipped an old lady and someone else saw it and pinned their handoff to the wall after the exchange, watching the dipper squirm as they could not do anything was awesome. Again the police did not care and the old lady was happy enough to get her stuff back so that was the end of that.

I do of course suffer having younger siblings when it comes to games, tools and food in the fridge but that is part and parcel of it all.

Edit. Saw a post below. My original xbox was stolen once when my dad's house got hit. The police caught him a couple of weeks later with it under his arm and matched the serial number I passed along (thank you liveinfo). It was mostly a xbmc box by this point but I did miss it for those couple of weeks.

Back in Primary School I had my Pokemon Sapphire stolen from me. See, I knew who took it - the freaking game still had my Pokemon on it! When I asked where he got it, he said he found it... In a haystack. I'm not even fucking kidding. What made it worse is that even after saying exactly what happened, I still didn't get the game back.

Fuck that guy.

When the original Xbox was still new, I had one stolen from my dads apartment, and more recently, my first WiiU was stolen by my ex and her friends, as revenge. But they left my ps3....

About 3 years ago, someone broke into our house. We were having a party outside back then. When we got home, the door was unlocked. We panicked. My dog looks like it's been poisoned but she survives. You can clearly see the doorknob about a meter away inside.

It sucked. Stole my laptop. Stole my iPod. Stole lots of my mom's bags. You could see the pile of bags on the floor.

What's worse? Those assholes got to see our documents (birth certificates, etc.) so they know who we are.

Main reason why our house is now caged and has 8 surveillance cameras now.

I've had my GBA stolen, countess trading cards, my 50$ boots, ect. People have always either stolen from me or tried to steal from me, then wonder why I don't like my stuff touched.

Ooh I dunno, had his virginity robbed from him? Poor lad, can just see some fat cig smoking Brenda pinning him down in a park, screaming "I'll make ye a fukkin man!"

...

Had the house robbed by two men whilst I was working night shift, one pinning my wife against the wall with a knife while the other looted.... Eldest crying on the baby monitor spooked them and they only got away with a couple of hundred quids worth.
Cheerful story huh..., wife has sworn to let me know if we see either/both walking down the street sometime, I'll have a couple of words if that happens! ;)

Earlier, back when still living at parents, I used to buy expensive bicycles... had em chained up and all sorts, but had 2 nicked from outside - both times on a windy night, both with bolt cutters and the like....

When I was 8 one of my dad's "friends" stole our entire Wii set-up.
My dad would also "play the pawnshop" and steal money from me, my sister, and our mother so as to be able to afford his various drug additions.

got my wallet stolen once at school
a friend found it in the bathroom and gave me back, and now that i think about it, probably the friend who found the wallet was the one that stole it in the first place..
it had like 3 euros on it, come back with just 1 or 2 cents.. but i got my bus pass and ID back.. which was great..

i also lost a ps2 memory card, which cost 50 euros at that time, i am pretty sure it was stolen by a girl that pretended to be nice..

i did steal 2 things when i was a kid...
one, it was a pack of gum on a shopping, it had cameras, the security dude called my mom at checkout, i never forget the shame i had..
i also stole a toy from my neighbor, years later they found out in my house, i also regret it... specially because after steal it, with the guilt i hided it in a room and never used, afraid of parents ask where i did get it, and i don't know why i actually took it...

i tried to steal 2 game boy games...
a friend of a relative was in my house having vacation.. the person had a gameboy with a very cool game i was enjoying, when i realized that person would go back to his\her country, i hided the cartridge in a medicine box, some days later this person had an injury, did go to medicine box and found the game, she\he get surprised to find the game in there, that person didn't speak my language so i don't know if it did get angry or knew i was trying to "make her\him forget the game in my house"
the second game boy game, it was when i was at the hospital, i stole the cartridge, and somedays later i had guilt and knew i was doing something wrong.. so i come up with the idea of put the game on a toy box and pretended to found it there, i gave the game back this way..

this events happened when i was very little (the first gbc game, the gum thing and the toy happened when i was about 6 years old, the second game boy game was when i was about 9 years old..

ho, now that i remember, when i was about 13, i stole some money from my grandma, but later i put the money back..

the reasons i stole the stuff was because when i asked my parents something they gave me the "when i was your age i didn't need any game boys or toys" speech. they never understood that a kid needs toys, or games or that we didn't lived in a rock age anymore..
my mom never ever bought me a toy... my dad only gave me something in Christmas.. so i was a frustrated kid that had to rely on relatives or others to get toys..
they never purchased candy, or toys..
and i was a pretty selfish kid..

When I was in Kindergarten all the way through to around grade 3, there was this kid named Angela that both went to the same school as me and lived in my neighborhood. She was a bitch though I was still friends with her for whatever reason. When I was in grade 3 I think, I was over at her house with my DSi and a few of my games. She stole my copy of Mario Kart DS and smashed the damn cartridge with a hammer right in front of me, yet denies she did anything.
There was also this kid named Taylor who stole one of my Littlest Pet Shops. A cocker spaniel, I believe it was. She ended up giving it back because she felt bad.

A while ago when my friend found out his mkds was fake(when he tried to play it on his 3ds), he smashed the fuck out of it. he had already bought a new copy though

When I was staying at the hostel after I left my old man's place, my room was broken into a couple of times. I was lucky enogh to have taken my laptop and a few of my more valuable treasures with me while I was out but they stole my SNES. Oddly they stole all MY DVDs but they inexplicably left my ex girlfriend's DVDs untouched. I suspect an inside job to be perfectly honest with you. Wouldn't put it past the bitch. She did, after all, steal my limited edition Toad pattern 3DS I won from Nintendo.
