Hey there,

I've read a lot of threads about installing legit CIA's on to my system, but I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to..
I recently bought a New 3DS XL, and it is on firmware 10.3.0-27E. I haven't actually installed the homebrew launcher yet, but I'm planning on doing so soon since I have a large interest in emulators.

I know the homebrew launcher is a 0% of bricking the system since it's running on the SD card, and does not touch the NAND unless you actually install software which does so. But today I've read that you can install Legit CIA's on my current firmware without running CFW or downgrading. (Source: ) I realize that this will only allow one to install a select number of games, but since the games I would like to pirate the most are in that list anyway, it doesn't matter much to me.

I would like to know if using a CIA manager (such as FBI or NASA) could install it on my SD card only, so that the NAND remains untouched? I'm sorry if this is a noob-question, I only found out about the whole 3ds scene a week ago. The reason I ask is because I don't plan on getting CFW or creating an EmuNAND anyway, so I would like to not do anything with my NAND as to avoid a brick.

Thanks in advance :)

They are installed in any case on SD so NAND won't get touched.

Hey, quick question. I'm either using FBI or NASA. Which one of them will be safer for me to use? I saw a post saying that the latest FBI uses unstable memchunkhax2 code, which as far as I know it's a hax to access NAND. I've also heard that NASA opens up straight in your NAND files with uninstall mode active.

Basically, which one is the least risky to use?
I want my brick chances as low as possible :/

I think NASA has a higher success rate for installing, whereas FBI needed like 200+ tries for me before I got it to work.

Well, installig stuff actually DOES touch your NAND, since it writes tickets to your ticket.db.
There's very small chance that something might happen during ticket writing, which would lead to ticket.db corruption and thus softbrick.
But it's very unlikely it can happen, actually.

Does a soft brick require any sort of hardmod? How hard is recovering from one?

i dont want to seem counter protective only informative when i say downgrading is not really that dangerous anymore all you need is the proper update pack for your region and model in your case n3ds 9.2E full from " that 3ds website related to isos" and your good to go

honestly there are more benefits to cfw than piracy like cheats, the ability to play out of region games, more . . . power available for homebrew (more homebrew and better performance in most emulators) not to mention emunand is (still) the greatest protection plan against bricks to date (you cant brick your system(nand) from emunand or by creating one)

so the only time there will be any chance of a brick is during the downgrade if you get the wrong update pack or the power goes out before its done . . . any other brick you get during a downgrade will be a softbrick and in that case you update via recovery menu and atm you can try again from there (in fact there has not been a single brick reported using the newest downgrader . . . i believe it only runs on 10.5 and above though . . . you can even install your legit .cias before you attempt to downgrade and if you softbrick (during the downgrade) you will still have the games installed)

Thanks, I could consider doing this in the future, though I honestly can't see the need right now. Like I said, the games I want to install are all in the legit CIA. list in my region anyway (Mainly mm3d, ssb3ds, mh4u and Luigi's mansion DM).

Also I believe I have heard you can use software named HANS to access out of region games, but I'm not completely sure.

As for emulator performance, that is a valid point which I should consider, but I'll have to try them in userland mode first to see if performance is an issue. If so, I'll probably downgrade sometime.
Thanks again, useful information :)

P.S. emunand is good brick protection but since for the mean time I won't be doing anything too risky it's not a big concern yet

it does not have a good compatibility rate (with games). . . other than that "i here you loud and clear enjoy your gaming"

ps i like your style no need to jump in the deep end . . . just get your feet wet first

You should just downgrade I you wanna install cias. If you use the correct update files, your 3DS won't hard brick, and it only can softbrick. I it does, you'll only need to update to 10.7, format, and try again. It's easy now that we can.

Don't want to repeat myself so...
