Everything you need to know is described in Plailect's great guide. Don't skip any instructions and carefully read and follow them.

The 16gb SD card is fine and I would recommend that you use that one because of the NAND backups you have to make in the process.

I used a 4gb card for mine (only because I set my existing emunand aside and started by making a fresh emunand) Only thing you'll have to be careful with (aside from the usual stuff :P ) is when you back up sys and emunand, you'll only be able to do one at a time and copy each to pc and delete from sd card as you go. And then reverse order when putting the nands back in, one at a time.

Make sure you have enough time, with doing all the nand backups/restores could take up to a few hours. Other than that just follow the guide by Plailect tgat was mentioned up there and you shouldn't run into much problems. The first time I did it it took about 4 hours, but by the second time it took about 2.5 hours because I was familiarized with the process

How much time would the whole process take me?
Just remember this extremely important thing:
Don't screw up.
Seriously, it's risky if you don't follow the guide exactly. Although, it has been getting way safer than it used to be. I know that from experience because I followed the first ever guide to dump my OTP and figured out how to install A9LH myself, because that wasn't part of the guide. Recently, I followed the most up-to-date guide to dump my otp0x108 (I believe that was it), and I noticed it had the full guide, rather than just the guide for OTP! Meaning, all of the previously-assumed to be completed preparation, plus how to compile and install A9LH, which isn't even necessary anymore because of SafeA9LHInstaller!
Oh, how the times have changed!

I find myself too scared to do it now. I was worried to install emunand too. There was a youtube channel that helped me get it but its now closed.

Don't be, really. It's safe. Unless you say something along the lines of "how dangerous could it be to use someone else's OTP?", or "you know, I think I'll downgrade to 2.1 without a NAND backup. It'll save some time"

EDIT: If you re-read my other post, you'll find that I followed the first guide - which was experimental and very dangerous - and even did it without a hard mod. Plus, I followed the most recent guide (to dump my otp0x108.bin) - which is well thought out and very safe - again, without a hard mod. Really, it's safe. And if you need a video to help you, just say the words, I found an excellent guide on youtube that was published recently.

Get a fairly big sd card, make many backups even when it says to make one, make multiple. Especially sysnand, and at different times of the process. And know this is pretty risky. Also when I was downgrading emunand I got tmd hash mismatches, and that ment nothing so don't be too scared

3 Gigs left seems small.
If i were you i'd make some cleanup on your SD card (backing up game titles on PC if necessary) or buy a bigger one.
Time, you'll need quite some time ! Backing up and restoring Nands and SD card content is very long, so prepare yourself some videos on the side. And don't hesitate to double ckeck your steps so you don't screw up.
Aside from space and time, you should know that Plailect's guide rox, did A9LHAX 3 consoles with no bricks or other surprises following it.

Hmm how many gigs would be a good number and also to have space for a few decent games? I mainly use my O3DS for trips and stuff

Here's the video:

Also, I did it with a four gigabyte SD card with emuNAND installed, equaling about 2.9 gigabytes, so you should have enough space. I was using an Old 3ds (XL) by the way, this amount of space isn't enough for a New 3ds (XL).

probably 8gb at the least, but 16 or 32gb would be the best.
