Hi all,

So my first question is will it be possible to switch from Habib to Rebug once I get the PS3? Will it even be necessary? What are the differences between the two CFWs?

And my second question is, if I happen to stick with the Habib CFW, will there be any way to convert my PS3 to a DEX from there? Or is it necessary to have Rebug CFW/Rebug Toolbox set up first?

Thank you in advance! :)

iirc you can just install any cfw once you are on one, but don't quote me on that
So I could just place the latest Rebug PS3UPDAT.PUP onto my USB and install it while I'm on Habib CFW and it wouldn't brick?

Yes, you can switch to Rebug, should just be as simple as using the PS3UPDAT.PUP from a USB stick. You can compare features by just googling "<cfw name> features", but in general, Rebug trumps all others. Particularly if you're wanting to use DEX for any particular reason, since the Rebug Toolbox makes it so easy.

also if i may ask, where did you order from?
ebay. It's a PS3 Slim. Apparently the disk drive doesn't work, but it's not needed since you install PKGs from your USB onto the hard drive, and that's probably why I got it for about £86. Looks promising though, if you ask me.

Thanks for this! Although Is there any brick risks to any of this?

no, no more risk than doing a regular system update on ofw if you have the right files(non corrupted lol)
That's really put my mind at ease now! ;)
Thanks! What you and Vappy explained is probably all I need to know! :)

It's equally dangerous to update OFW to OFW as it is to update CFW to CFW.

If you looking for programming for it, I'd suggest getting D-REX.
Otherwise REX will do the job perfectly fine.

Well, D-REX is specifically for DEX hardware. If it'll even install on a CEX system, I can't imagine it'd work at all.
But standard Rebug REX has functionality for changing between CEX and DEX kernels on the fly.

Technically it should install without a problem.
Most of the hardware on a DEX is the same as a CEX console.
Ofcourse, I don't know this for sure but it should be roughly the same.

Aye, Rebug toolbox gives you that ability to swap between CEX and DEX LV2 kernels.

Basically, What I'm aiming to do is just be able to use UDK Ultimate with my PS3, while also being able to play normal, commercial games in the process. And the README for the UDK Ultimate PS3 build said that I needed a DEX Firmware to play the builds it creates.

NOTE1: At the present moment, unfortunatelly, the PS3 export feature for UDKUltimate only exports a debug PS3 game, which only runs on a PS3 Devkit or a PS3 DEX Firmware.

So installing Rebug D-REX and Rebug toolbox, and then swapping the LV2 kernel to DEX should see me through? Or do I need to do something else? I may be completely wrong here lol. >.>
