SCROLL DOWN FOR FIRST RELEASE!

Update: https://gbatemp.net/threads/shin-megami-tensei-iv-apocalypse-is-coming-to-the-west.422964/
So apparently it's coming to the west, fear not me and a group of a couple guys are still working on it and will release one last patch before completely stopping.
This may include up to everything up to the story, thank you for your patience :)
The game doesn't seem to be releasing until September, so if you're impatient, stay tuned!

So I've been recently trying to learn Japanese and I'm a big fan of the game series so I thought why not, it should be a good project for me in the long run. I don't have much so far but I plan to reference SMT4 to get a good idea of the file structure and what I should expect to put in terms of an English Translation.

I've submitted some images of what I've got so far, I haven't really understood why the words are misaligned but hopefully I'll find the fix to it sometime later.

I'll be working on the UI and Demon Compendium first before I'll get to the story since I feel like I'd need more help on that.

TODO:
- Demon Compendium Names (Almost done)
- UI (Finished the text portion)
- Interactions with Demons and Partner
- Dialogue
- Others to be named...

Also added a change log!

Instructions:
- You need a modded 3DS first so follow either this or this which are both amazing guides. (Be careful as the second one takes way longer! Not to scare you though, it's way better.)
- Get NTR
- Follow instructions on NTR.
- Download this plugin and put it on your plugin folder. (Ex: G:\plugin)

v1.1(with language emulation for DLC):
adfly
mega

v1.0:
adfly
mega

- Download the release located at the bottom of this post
- Install into a folder called SMT4Final on the root of your SD.
- Profit!

NEW:
- I've included an update file in the release that will translate almost all the skills and a couple other things. There's more to come later but I'm not sure when it will be done.
This update can be used standalone but it will look odd because the font size is too big.

I also left my debugging tools in the directory, feel free to take a look at them if you want to mess around. They have comments for those who are curious.
More can be found out about the Dialogue Editor here.

If you get any issues or see any UI errors, please let me know!
NOTE: Some text are short or abbreviated due to text limits! This includes Skill names and other

If you'd like to help, I'd love some, I'm going to be busy for the next few days due to exams, but I should be free after!

If anyone knows how to patch an update file, please let me know! This way I can start releasing patches in .cia files for convenience!

You can find me on discord at Bastani#7689 or by messaging me on gbatemp.

It is not as far as I know.
I mean, in all honesty, it probably will. Atlus USA has teased it a few times and they will likely announce it at E3 along with some details on Persona 5. I don't want to discourage you from working on this, as romhacking is a very fun and engaging thing to do, just don't get in too deep man. It would kinda suck if you got super close to finishing the translation and poured a bunch of work into it only for Atlus USA to announce the release date and junk. Then all your work would kinda be for nothing unless people wanted to play a version not touched by Atlus's localization team.

I understand what you mean, don't worry about me but if you want to help I'd be happy to earn a hand :)

I've done some more changes here and there working on it for a couple hours.
I almost got all of the applications translated (there are a couple new ones that I haven't touched yet) and I think most of the menu's are localized.
I'll update you guys with some pics in the next few minutes.

I have to agree with both posters above. There's other 3DS fan translation projects on this site that have way less chances of coming overseas than this game.

I mean just to make it clear, I'm doing this because I like the game series, not because I don't think it'll come overseas, I'm more motivated to work on something I actually like than to just work on a random game.
I'm not very familiar with these other projects that you're mentioning and I likely won't be getting into them.

Thanks for starting this translation! I'm glad you want to stick with this project despite some people suggesting you work on something else. A potential western release hasn't stopped teams from translating games in the past, just look at FE If/Fates and the pre-3DS Pokemon games. If a game has a fan base people will most likely be interested in an english translation.

Let me know if you need any help testing. I don't know any Japanese, but I've put a little over 20 hours in the game so far.

Yeah, thank you for your support.

Currently I'm trying to see if I can get a FTP server going on NTR for faster debugging, I'm having issues with some of my text being too large for what's provided.
But once I do put in a lot of changes, I'll let you know.

I would say that you are doing God's work, but, since the SMT series is usually about toppling God, well... Heh heh heh heh... Not sure if I am using the phrase correctly anyway though.
Anyway, thank you for working on a translation for SMTIV Final.

It's no problem :) I really just need a Japanese translator right now, and someone who's good at reverse engineering because I can't find where the skill names are located

I wish that I could help, but, alas, I know almost nothing about either subject.
Anyway, I wonder why the skill names are not with the other things.
