Hacking N3ds downgraded to 2.1 bad nand backup

I am stuck on 2.1 with my OTP. I went to restore my nand and it is currupt some how and I can't restore it, both copies I have on my computer are bad, it looks like it was too small of a file or something

Anyone know how to get an N3ds from 2.1 back to 9.2 with no nand backup???? HELP!!!

oh wow... that sounds like a messed up situation. I don't think you could even hardmod since you dont have a NAND backup...

Do you have your emuNAND backed up? You could try to restore that and then patch the stuff manually thats missing? It might work...

I read somewhere I could cart update to 4.5 and use rxtools dev mode? I already have sysupdater.cia from getting otp on my sysnand

updating in general will brick afaik, your only option is to either find a working backup of an older nand/emunand, or intentionally bricking and sending it to nintendo where you will have to setup oothax to downgrade again

If you were on an O3DS this may be true. You are running a patched 2.1 that was never intended on the N3DS. I don't believe you can do much more without a backup of your 9.2 emuNAND/sysNAND.

If you downgraded to 2.1.0 on New 3DS but for some reason have no functional NAND backups(with or without a functional browser), I am working on a possible solution involving EmuNAND + NCSD / Crypto trickery.

You could attempt to use the console as an Old 3DS via CFW via 4.5 MSET hax and attempt to use EmuNAND and see if it can run 10.7 old 3DS emunand. running 10.7 sysnand as an old 3DS causes a brick so I am not sure if an Emunand would work

or you could wait for @Plailect to update his guide for a fix

I'm in the same situation as you dude. OTPHelper/Decrypt9 seems to be pretty unstable on N3DS when it comes to NAND backups...

multiple times, the guide mentions checking the sizes to make sure the NAND dump appears (at least file size wise) as good so this does not happen. I backed up my NAND several times more than the guide even and all my backups were fine (I am using a N3DS XL)

EDIT: I did follow the guide to the letter including unmounting the SD card vs powering off even with it being a pain to take out and put in a MicroSD Card while the system is on without knocking the battery out or closing the console.

Wait wait wait, are you sure it's not just EmuNAND Tool saying it's the wrong size because the dump came from OTP Helper/Decrypt9/EmuNAND9? Can you right-click that NAND.bin and tell us the filesize, in bytes?

Idk, just making assumptions. It's not fake since its the one that came with the console, unless Ninty is being cheepo and packing firmware hacked 2GB SDs with there consoles.

Theres your problem... Each NAND dump is ~2GB in size. If your SD card is 2GB, it probably ran out of space...
Maybe OTPHelper and Decrypt9 needs to check available space in SD card and give user error.

Each NAND dump is 1.2GB in size... And I moved the dumps over one at a time, so there is no way I ran out of space.

Just looked it up. Seems like N3DS NAND dumps are ~1.8GB where as O3DS is around ~1GB...

Someone can try doing a NAND dump with OTPHelper or Decrypt9 where they have less than 1GB of space and see what happens to verify this hypothesis

n3ds nand dumps are either 1.2gb or 1.8 gb, it differs by console or something (all my valid n3ds dumps are 1.2GB)

the same thing happened to me the first time i tried installing a9lh, to a 2DS. Windows 10 didn't properly copy any of my nand dumps from my internal SD reader in my laptop, and I had followed the guide strictly including deleting nand backups when it says to. fortunately i was able to system update with the bravely default cartridge to 6.2 i think, from there i updated back to 9.2 and started over. since then i don't delete nand backups from my sd/mSD when i am installing a9lh because i always have plenty of space, and ive had 4 successful installs using my windows 7 PC with TeraCopy (free util that lets you validate your copy operations). a 2DS, an o3DS XL, and 2 n3DS XL's.

I'm not sure if calculating the md5 or even CRC32 NAND dump in 3DS homebrew would be really time consuming... It is a rather large file...
