Hacking What WiiMotes work with the Homebrew channel?

There's your problem. It might have downloaded a revision of USBLGX that doesn't support the app-updating features.
The latest revisions may support all WiiMotes...

really really old and not recompiled (since at least 4 years) homebrews are not compatible. Those dead homebrews should not be used because unsupported and buggy since a long time.
90% of Wii homebrew ARE compatible ! And even if some are not, you can always find a fork that works !


ps : question was "is HBC compatible ?". Answser is : YES !
