I think the N3DSXL is the best console of all time! :P

One of my biggest interests in my life has been electronic games. I have been playing games since the 1980s with Game & Watch, ZX Spectrum, NES, C64 etc. But the N3DSXL beats them all!

The reasons why I think the N3DSXL is the best console ever are:

  • Among the best build quality handhelds. It is totally superior to for example the PSP, PSViTA or Dingoo build quality. Even though I slightly prefer the ordinary 3DSXL or DSiXL build quality.

  • Very solid retail games. Probably among my 5 favorite consoles ever.

  • Retroarch gives us NES, SNES, MEGADRIVE/GENESIS, GB, GBC, CPS1, CPS2, NEO GEO, PC ENGINE etc. in fullspeed!

  • GBA VC injection! I gave my two GBA SPs to a friend. I don’t need them anymore. The GBA VC injection gives the ULTIMATE GBA experience!

  • Homebrew PC Ports like Quake 1, Heretic, Hexen II, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and Wolfenstein 3D gives us another dimension of gaming, that Nintendo probably never would give us!

What else could we possibly ask for?

I'm right there with ya mate! Been loving it ever since I could play games with better speeds, bigger screen, 3D head tracking, and with retroarch!

Only downside I see to it is the slight inconvenience of having to unscrew the back off if I want to pull out the micro sd, rather than just popping it out on the small 3DS.

Well, imo the original standard-sized 3DS has the best build quality, but the N3DSXL is really great too :P
Otherwise, I agree with you, though I prefer VC to the Retroarch emulators (so much more stability™).
Yeah... Would agree if it weren't for the L and R button problems after a while.

EDIT: I am curious in knowing whether Super Mario RPG works on it...

Well most of your arguments are hacking-based.
Strictly non-hacking I prefer the PSVita just a little over my N3DSXL.
It's mainly because of the load of JRPG's and trophies though (they really add to the gaming experience for me).
I also disagree about the build quality. The PSVita 1000 is way sturdier than the N3DSXL.

Build quality is superior to the PSP, imo.
But to the PSVita? Nah. That handheld feels like it was made for adults. Something older people would take outside and not be embarrassed to use. Unfortunately, it's dead, but it was fun when it was supported.

As for the other handhelds you mentioned, never owned them so I can't give an opinion on them.

I agree that the vita is really nice build wise, and frankly I'd probably be using it about as much as I do the N3DSxl if the memory cards didn't cost an arm and a leg.

I agree with this! Thats a downer!

I dont agree with this. Of course the PSViTA is waay sturdier than all PSP models. The PSViTA was a huge upgrade in that sense, and it has almost the same build quality as the N3DSXL, but it doesnt really reach it. Compared to the 3DSXL the PSViTA falls far behind imo...

I have my PSViTA for non hacking gaming only too. Im very happy with it. There are lots of great games I have played through! But of my handhelds I tend to play on my (N)3DS 90% of the time. PSViTA 5% and the DSiXL 5%..

Can you explain how the PSVita falls far behind in terms of build quality with the N3DSXL?

Some of these arguments are subjective, of course. You could probably argument for the opposite :D

- The PSViTAs 4 front buttons are not as great.
- The PSViTAs analogues are not as great. (Well, they are better than the c-stick, but worse than the N3DSXLs main analogue)
- The PSViTAs L & R buttons are not as great. They feels a little bit too plastic.
- The PSViTAs D-Pad are obviously not as great.
- Both the N3DSXL and the PSViTA has this glossy finish, so thats a draw. None of them has the equally perfect matte finish as the 3DSXL or the DSiXL. But you cant have it all, I guess :P

I'll kind of agree with the analog sticks, but the PS Vita is more ergonomic. If I really get into my games and play for a long while on my N3DSXL, my hand would start to hurt. With the Vita, I can last a while longer before my hand starts to hurt.

If you guys don't mind the slow transfer speeds, then you can always use the MicroSD Management in your "System Settings" to transfer files from your PC directly to your 3DS's MicroSD card via wifi.

That's what I do. I usually get 2 to 3 MBps transfer speeds, but this way I don't have to take out my MicroSD card every now and then.

But I can understand, if you guys don't have a Gateway card, you'll have to transfer pretty big .cia files.

I have a Gateway card, so I don't have that problem :)

But Nonetheless, the MicroSD Management app is pretty good :)

I just use the FTP homebrew for all my small transfers under 500mb, anything over that I take out the micro sd for direct transfers.

Which I will be doing

I have to ask this, but have you even used a vita...?
really the only part I agree on is the trigger buttons (psp ones felt better) but everything else is great
the slide pad is a pos, which is named appropriately since there is 0 grip on the thing and your thumbs slips on it all the time after a little while, and the c-stick is a worse joke than the 3ds dpad, but at least its better than the 360 dpad...?

It seems like the whole argument in the main post is: "This console is great, you can play 10-20+ year old games on it!"

I suggest you play some games on the system before claiming everything is "not great"
I love playing boi rebirth on the vita because the analog controls are so tight compared to playing on a ps4, and pc ver with a 360 controller

and before anyone jumps on me and claims im a fanboi or whatever, I own both a o3dsxl and psv slim :p1ng:

hehe. I have bought games for the PSViTA for probably around 300 Euros. So yes, I have played and enjoyed a lot of games on the PSViTA! And I really hope Sony will release a "PSP3" sometime. Even though I highly doubt it.. Also, my favorite game of all time is on the PSViTA: Spelunky!! :) (I love Rogue-likes/Rogue-lites. The PSViTA has at least 4: Spelunky, BoI, Rogue Legacy and Dont Starve. So their games are top notch! Pretty much everything is better with the ViTA compared to the PSP imo)

But the N3DSXL is the killer machine in my gaming life!
