Every time I try to downgrade my 3ds I'm getting the downgrade is successful, but when it reboots I'm stuck on the black screen forever it feels like. I then try the troubleshoot solution which is taking out the SD card after your power it off, but I always get the error message when I try to start it up. I've been forced to update I don't know how many times now, at least 10+. I'm using the Oot hack method by the way, plus I've followed Plailect guide word to word, so I'm sure I haven't done anything wrong.

Yes I'm using the correct firmware, and I've checked with Youtube videos to see if I misplaced anything but it doesn't look like it. I can provide screenshots of my root if needed, or anything because I really want to know why this is happening. I've used three different system updates which all gave me the successful message by the way, but I can never get past the black screen. The first sysUpdater everyone was using, tried the safesysUpdater and Plailect new updater he did today. None of them have worked for me.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you have the same problem as many other downgrader's had, which the only solution so far is to format the system and then downgrade. It is still unknown what the cause is.

I haven't tried formatting my system yet. Would that really solve it?

Don't format!

Did you had menuhax? Delete/rename the home menu extdata folder in your Nintendo 3DS folder (use 3dbrew.org for finding the TitleID)

Also, if you rename the Nintendo 3DS folder to something else, does your 3DS boot?

Or just remove the SD card of the console on boot.

I haven't formatted, yet. I want to confirm if I can save my game saves before I even consider it. Anyway, I guess I can try deleting the extdata.
in my case, it works (format the console)

save: yes, nand data (mii plaza, activity log, ...) : no
Do you have a specific guide by any chance? I don't care about mii plaza or any of that crap. I'd hate to lose all of my progress.

I've already tried it.

It's safe to delete the home menu extdata folder, since it only contains theme data, and other useless stuff.
Also, iirc most (if not all) game saves (and most games) are in the Nindendo 3DS folder, so if deleting the home menu extdata doesn't work, then renaming the Nintendo 3DS folder should allow the system to boot, without permanently losing your games/saves.

This is a question not related to this thread, but can anyone pls tell me what arm9loaderhax is and what doed it do? Thanks.

Please use the "ask! GBATemp" functionality. Also, if you append " site:gbatemp.net" to the end of your search keyword in Google, you can search that way.

Nope, I'll check it out.

be aware: some save data games cannot be saved (for example pokemon picross)

If you can acquire SDF (SaveDataFiler, Nintendo dev stuff), then you can also export the "secure value", which might help when re-copying the save. It's worth a try :)

Okay, I'll give it a shot. It looks like my extdata is 0000008f, right? https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Extdata
If this doesn't work I can try messing around with SDF tomorrow I guess, or renaming my Nintendo 3DS folder like you suggested.
