Now, while this technically should probably be in the GBA section (you know, the namesake of this whole site), that's been a little "quiet" lately and this is
strongly related to the topic at hand. Plus, you're basically masters of your field, so I figured you'd be the people to ask.
So, basically, I was inspired by the great works of the legendary
@Olmectron and decided to try and save edit the Fire Emblem GBA trilogy, starting with Binding Blade (plus I got f'ed over pretty hard by RNG, seriously, almost everyone has 0 Resistance and I'm 1/3 of the way through the game).
So, I got my .sav, and opened it with a hex editor, and got to work. First, I played the game with the save to find out a few values:
Code:
GOLD: 3030 0xBD6
ROY LV 8 78 exp 24HP
R0x LV 8 4e exp 18HP
ELEN LV 13 21 exp 20HP
EN0x LV D 15 exp 14HP
LUGH LV 16 59 EXP 26HP
LG0x LV 10 3B EXP 1AHP
I decided to find out how to change gold first. As you can see above, my gold is 3030, BD6 in hex. Now, I search for 0BD6, and of course nothing shows up. So I write the it is in Awakening, Fates and most other games, that is D60B, and it shows up three times. Ah. I guessed that one was for the "Restart Chapter" save, and another for the "Resume Chapter" save. So I try to change it to 0F 27 (9999), and then play the game, and it apparently corrupts my save. Either the "Restart Chapter" or "Resume Options were missing, or "New Game" was the only option. So then I tried changing all three, the first two and the last two. Same thing.
I tried changing a few other values too, such as the above stats, and they didn't show up (even in reverse order), or they corrupted the save. So, either the save is compressed/encrypted or I'm doing something wrong.
If anyone else would like to take a crack at it, here's the save:
