I'm curious how it all started, 3ds cfw and homebrew. I had a 3ds since day one. I remember visiting gbatemp everyday to check if the 3ds was hacked. I had my hopes high because on how easily the ds was hacked. But after a year, i grew tired of waiting and sold my 3ds. My wallet is like an onion back then. It makes me cry.

So early January of 2016, out of curiosity i visited gbatempt for any 3ds hacking. To my surprise, CFW is alreadycavailable ro the public. So i immediately purchased one, and the hacking begins.

CFW saved me alot of money. I'm so happy what it did for my toy. So i wondered, who do i have to thank? Then i did a little research about the history.

yes, yellows8 started it (i think). But this guy, govanify leaked all of the work. Some see him as an "attention whore," some say he's the destroyer. But i look at him as a saint who started this all.

I saw a thread here at gbatemp. There is this guy named Derrek, saying that the hack was"not meant for the public." So if it wasn't for this govanify, everthing here would not be possible if he didn't leaked the files. Hackers followed on what's been exploited and built upon it. Like what palentine did.

The 3ds scene is one of the most beautiful thing next to psp's. And i would want to thank Govanify for it.

this is just my opinion. You are free to voice out yours.

Thanks,

The Homebrew Development thread over in the Homebrew Development sub-forum is a good place to get an idea of how it began, with all of the gory technical jargon and drama to go with it through the first 60 or 70 pages. If you have the spare time, you would do well to check it out, it's a fun read if you don't mind jargon and old drama. It took around a year or a year and a half to get to where we are now: CFWs and the ability to run homebrew as CIA or 3dsx. Before that it was an extremely primitive environment where we could only run things on the ARM9 CPU and only on firmware 4.x. After that smea and others began showing off that they had ARM11 code execution via redNAND and private CFWs, before ninjhax and eventually *hax was a thing.
