I just bought my first Vita Slim. It is on 3.57, what are my options if any. I would like to play PSP ISO files and normal vita games (via the physical games). Is this possible.

That is on latest firmware so you can only use it legitimately for Vita games and full access to online services. As mentioned in this forum 3.57 blocked the PSP side hacks so no Iso backups. You can buy Metal Ops but you will need to make a Euro Sony account. So you do have to think what is more important.

Metal Ops will allow you to get a VHBL bubble. But it would be only for homebrew stuff. Might be better than nothing if you are into older systems.

TheFlow (Vita exploit dev) had announced a few days ago that he had a 3.57 PSP-side kernel exploit that allowed PSP backup loaders to work again.

If you hang on and just get MGS Portable Ops, you should be good to go when it does release.

You're on a pretty unlucky firmware actually.

You can do almost all of the known Vita hacks on 3.18 compared to what you can do on 3.57.

I would say yes for the time being, since there will be a new kernel exploit for 3.57 in the near-future (probably when and if Sony patches it).
If you purchase Portable Ops +, you will be able to install VHBL and run homebrew until the time of the kernel exploit release comes.

Thanks so much for your advice! Apologies for pestering you but you seem to be the 'go to guy' around here. Do you have a link to how to install VHBL so I can check it out? And to be honest, if it's too complicated I'll probably just give it a miss.

Basically, just take a look at this.

It will tell you about all the known Vita exploits for 3.57, and there are links to tutorials on how to install them (there's not much to see compared to, say, 3.18... )

Had a quick look... hmm. Seems pretty complicated! I've got a hacked psp anyway so I think i'll just stick with that for older games.
