Hey guys, I have two O3DS's. One with Gateway SysNAND 8.1.0, EmuNAND 10.7, and a regular one on 9.4.0 SysNAND. I just want to know what I should be doing with them. Should I hack both and get them on RxTools? Should I just downgrade the regular one and get it on Gateway? I just wanna know what I should do with them to get the creme de la creme of 3DS hacks (CIAs, apps, programs, hacks, cheats, etc.).

The Gateway console update it to 9.2.0-20 using rxTools dev mode and setup homemenuhax (keep your Gateway card), the 9.4.0 console downgrade it to 9.2.0-20 using safesysupdater and also setup homenuhax and a CFW of your choosing.

Get 9.2.0-20, then install a9lh on both, or at least get the OTP

Until arm9lh lets us flash Nands on bricked consoles im staying away from if it even with a hard mod.
It already pretty much does, unless you somehow manage to wipe out firm0/firm1

EDIT: I've done 20 3ds' with a9lh and not run into a single serious issue on any of them

I'll wait for an actual menu Nand selection menu on boot by holding L/R but this is getting off topic.
Indeed, essentially he has two options:
  1. Get to 9.2.0-20 and menuhax both
  2. Get to 9.2.0-20 and a9lh both
Menuhax is safer and quicker to setup as you don't modify the sysNAND
A9LH is MUCH faster to boot up and essentially gives us a recovery menu

I hear that A9LH is pretty good, but a bit complicated to install. What is OTP? What offers more, Menuhax or A9LH? In terms of like compatibility, online play, apps, cheats, etc.

1. AuReiNAND is currently the best custom firmware imo-it updates more frequently and has similar features to Rx and Cakes. It also supports both O3DS and N3DS. https://github.com/AuroraWright/AuReiNand/releases

2. The OTP.bin is a smaallll little file (256 bytes) that contains information specific to your 3DS-it's needed in order for a9lh to function, and it requires a lengthy process which involves downgrading to FW 2.1 and back again.

3. Menuhax has a much slower boot to EmuNAND, as it has to first boot SysNAND and then run code to boot to EmuNAND, while a9lh can boot straight into EmuNAND. You can do pretty much anything in a menuhax setup that you can in a9lh, but a9lh does everything considerably faster when reboots are involved.

1. Are there any features that are CFW specific? Like cheat plugins for example, what CFWs support those?

2. Out of the four, which is better, NTR, Rx, Cakes, or AuReiNAND?

3. So you're saying anything Menuhax can do, A9LH can do, right? Is there anything I should know about A9LH before I go through the process of getting it? Like what the hell are arm 9 payloads or ctrbootmanagers and decrypt9 and whatnot?

How would I update my Gateway one through rxTools Dev mode? I'm new to the CFW scene so I have no idea how. A guide would be helpful. Thanks.

Edit: Also, I'd still like to use my Gateway, do any of the cfws interfere or mess with Gateway? Are there any conflicts?
Also, I downgraded the regular one to 9.2.0, what should I do with it now?

Not that I'm aware of. You can boot into gateway via HBL via the 3dsx file if you paste it inside the 3ds folder. I went back to simple and just set menuhax to auto boot into GW's menu. Then I either boot sysnand or emunand from that menu.

You can boot SysNAND from GW's menu? I thought you can only boot GW (EmuNAND with rom menu and CIAs) mode or classic mode (retail cartridge, no roms or CIAs) on GW menu?
I'm still confused on what I should do. I'm currently just gonna get both my O3DSes on 9.2 and install Menuhax for both with 10.7 EmuNAND. Is it better to just do that or go through the whole process of installing A9LH and AuRei?

Gateway supports Sysnand mode by holing b while pressing a on the boot option with GW's menu. Me personally, I've ditched my GW cart for the time being and made the switch to A9LH on Aurora's CFW. She is the only dev I know that works literally every single day in order to bring updates to her CFW. Yes, I know it was Rei's work that mostly helped. But never the less. Aurora has brought many needed fixes to that CFW. Her CFW is also very noob friendly when it comes down to running CFW on A9LH. The downgrade to 2.1 process is fairly easy now as well. Follow every step in the OTP guide and you should be good. The process tends to be easier for O3DS users. But never the less. It took me roughly between 3-4 hours to get everything setup how I like it on A9LH. No more EMUNAND for me. But if you really want to. You could do the following.

- Downgrade to 2.1
- Grab your OTP
- Restore your 9.0 or 9.2 clean Sysnand.
- Create an emunand
- install A9LH
- Paste Aurora's CFW on to the root of your SD
- Paste both the firmware.bin and firmware90.bin from the FIRMZ.rar into the Aurienand folder.
- Power on your console with your SD card inserted
- enable the options you want to install then tap A. Allow the console to reboot.
- you should now boot into to your Sysnand. You can update that via settings if you like.
- To boot into emunand hold L while booting. This uses the firmware90.bin which supports firm 9.0. This will enable you to use GW. For best boot times. Instal HBL via CN. Then copy the GW 3dsx. To your SD card root. Rename the HBL boot.3dsx to boothbl and rename GW.3dsx to boot. Now when you run the CN exploit. GW 3dsx will boot you into the GW menu. Sysnand won't boot through GW here but the emunand will as it's running 9.0 or 9.2 firm. Obviously you can't update emunand as you'll lose access to GW. GW are currently working on a safe downgrade method. They are also working on A9LH apparently.

Enjoy.

Much appreciated. Can I run HBL through Menuhax instead of CN?

Yeah sure thing Hakamdeebad. I find that the boot rate is just that much better with CN rather than Menuhax. Of course it's all down to user preference. I just prerer to use CN to boot HBL or GW because I own the cart.

You're telling him to setup Menuhax, that too for CFW when arm9loaderhax is around.
