Okay, so here's the skinny.

Got a CECHB, 20GB model PS3 here, running 4.46 REBUG no-BD version because I found out much to my annoyance that it has a bad bluray drive, that I unfortunately made worse. So, it took me a while, but now as I type this, I finally have a replacement BD drive for it.

Now, I am aware there is a process needed to be able to remarry with a new drive, so that it would work again, and grant me a fully functional PS3 system here. But that said, I don't know what it is, and my Google-Fu isn't the best when it comes to finding out how to do this. Might someone here help me understand how I need to do this correctly? I definitely want to get this thing fully running, so I'm not stuck on only no-BD firmware(s) forever here.

my advisory is look at this http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Remarry_Bluray_Drive

Basically to remarry a blu ray drive you need to downgrade to 3.55 cfw then get the machine into factory service mode using a jig(a psp would work using the ps3jig app) and using the information available to remarry the drive using the lv2diag file on the devwiki

So long as the bluray drive supports the logic board, yeah.
It's reasonably easy to remarry nowadays, btw, and I wouldn't follow that wiki guide anymore.

I recommend this. I've used it to remarry several bluray logic boards to my ps3.

Very interesting. How do I use it though? I got the package installed and it says that I need to somehow copy the eid_root_key. Well, I did find a dumper for that, and it seemed to work correctly because it would reboot fine. But when I start the process, it says it cannot open it.

Dump eid_root_key via rebug toolbox. It saves it somewhere on the ps3 internal hard drive, so you'll need to look for it. Then copy it from the internal drive to the root of your USB. Then you can toggle factory service mode via the menu and then use remarry, and then toggle factory service mode again afterwards

This may also work for eid_root_key:

Where in the rebug toolbox would I go to do the eid_root_key?

I also ran the 4.46 version, to match the firmware I currently have. It would run, then beep, then reboot. But I couldn't find it anywhere.

**EDIT**

Okay, checked my flash drive, and found an extension-less file called eid_root_key on the flahs drive. 1KB in size. But again, the remarry tool insisted it couldn't open it. What gives?

Okay, definitely like what those cfw tools provides. But again, I seem to be stuck. I can enter and exit FSM just fine, though kind of off-putting how in FSM it basically requires use of the HDMI port when the PS3 oddly looks much better and sharper on Component video - at least for the TV it's currently connected to. Anyway..

The 4.70 build of that EID key dumper doesn't seem to do anything. The system in question is currently on 4.46 no-BD rebug, and when I run the 4.46 build of the EID key dumper, it seems to run, beep the system and then reboot. Checking the flash drive, I have a 1KB file with no extension attached at the end. When re-entering FSM to start the remarry process with this file on there, it complains that it cannot open the file and will not proceed.

Help?

Anyone? For what it's worth, I am still running the no-BD version of 4.46 rebug on the 20gig model, since I was not yet aware of whether it would be safe to try (re)flashing the standard version yet.

Let me re-iterate.

The PS3 in question is on 4.46 Rebug, no-BD version.

Per suggestions here, I put the original's logic board on the fresh bluray drive. However, it still seems to fail to detect if I try to put in a disc. Whether this is because the no-BD patch disables use of the bluray drive completely or something else, I do not know.

I'd since installed the EID root key dumper app for 4.46, and it would run, the PS3 would beep, and then it would reboot. On the USB itself, I see a single file that is called eid_root_key, with no file extension whatsoever, and 1KB in size. Is that a valid dump of said key, or what?

I just know that at least with the homebrew tool provided, I can easily hop in and out of FSM mode. But when I try to remarry, it insists and wants me to give it an eid_root_key dump. But even when the created file is sitting there, it then spits an error saying it can't open it, and won't let me proceed any further.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AT THIS POINT TO GET THIS PS3 100% OPERATIONAL AGAIN?

Okay, I realized rather quickly why I wasn't seeing any options to dump the eid_root_key from the rebug toolbox. Simply, it was on an older version of the rebug toolbox.

Uninstalled that. Installed the full version of the latest avaialble. It gave me a chirp about how it wasn't on a compatible COBRA payload, but I am not worried about that at presently. At least there, I was able to dump the eid_root_key and get a file that is 48KB in size. Okay, that makes a little more sense. But again, the file has no extension afterward. And again, even though I go copy this file to my USB, and go through the process of installing and go through the process to enter FSM and start the process, it still complains and throws up an error code about how it can't open the file created, and it won't let me proceed.

Please, help. Somebody, please...
