Hacking Need a flashcart for original NDS roms on my New 3DS XL, ver 10.6.0-31U, totally confused.

As the title states I am looking for a flash cart to play NDS roms on a New 3DS XL running firmware 10.6.0-31U. Don't really need anything else (emulators, 3DS roms, etc.). Was wondering if I could get the advice of any of you here.

1. I hear many people recommending the R4i Gold 3DS. Is this the one I want? (http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149)

2. Googling "r4i 3ds gold" and trying to find the product on the R4 homepage, the only product that shows is this: http://www.r4ids.us/r4i-gold-3ds.html. Is this deluxe card a completely different product? It looks like this is also able to play 3DS games.

3. As stated above my New 3DS XL has the latest FW 10.6.0-31U. Do I have to ensure I keep "updating" the R4i Gold 3DS as newer 3DS system firmwares come out? I know of the "Wood R4 firmware", is this the only thing I have to patch on the R4i Gold 3DS? Do I need to perform any sort of update first to the flashcard before using it on my N3DS? And is Nintendo even trying to block this flashcart anymore?

4. As far as risk goes, just using an R4i 3DS Gold flashcart, there is no risk of bricking my New 3DS XL hardware right? Since the only modifications being done are to the flashcart itself and just simply plugging it in when I want to use it?

I would recommended downgrading with new Memchunkhax3 downgrader then buy an r4 or a supercard

I'm trying to avoid doing any major tinkering (AFAIK downgrading would amount to some fairly risky/time-consuming to learn methods, right?) to the actual N3DS, if possible.

Are there any other advantages to downgrading and using the r4 or supercard that you suggested? Again assuming that I'm only looking to play NDS roms.

OP, I just recently went through the same thing. Check out my thread. Updated it after I got my R4i Gold too. I'm happy to answer any questions.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link here but if you Google "3DS Card UK" it's the first result. I ordered from there and they sent the R4. I didn't hold up much hope but I got it running and it works perfectly on the N3DS official firmware.

1. Yes, that is the card they are referring to. It's a good card.
2. Yes, the Deluxe is a different product entirely (it's a old Gateway clone).
3. Almost certainly not. Nintendo has blocked DS flashcards before in DSi/3DS firmware updates, but they haven't done so in years. Wood, despite being called a firmware, is just the software that needs to be on the microSD inserted into the flashcard for it to work.
4. No risk of bricking at all, it's just like play a Nintendo DS game.

How did you get your R4 SDHC to work with N3DS 10.6? Are you sure it isn't R4i SDHC?

You need to have TWL_FIRM patched and use a special cia launcher

Yes. At least I've patched it, I'm not sure if it worked. I tried with the Wood R4 Launcher on the first page, but always got "An error has occurred..."

Mine is also a R4 SDHC. I'm trying the one you linked right now

I just did. I don't think they mention how to set the install destination to NAND on DevMenu or BBM. Well, I'll try to do it just pressing A and see what I get.
