  1. EmuNAND will be bricked by the downgrade and you will no longer be able to get into it (a black screen when you try to load EmuNAND is normal)
  2. New 3DS Only:* Reboot into SysNAND, then get into the Homebrew Launcher through the entrypoint of your choice
  3. Open OTPHelper
  4. New 3DS Only: Select the Unbrick FW 2.1 EmuNAND option and follow instructions
  5. Go to "NAND Backup & Restore"
  6. Backup EmuNAND to emuNAND.bin
  7. Restore SysNAND from emuNAND.bin
  8. Cross your fingers
  9. Reboot
  10. If you get a black screen, boot with the SD card removed then reinsert
I now get a blackscreen with or without the SD Card in my 3DS

Oh hey, got the same problem here, but with an o3DS. I can get into the recovery menu and attempt to update, but it'll get stuck near the end. It's probably my fault this happened b/c I used sysUpdater 0.4.1 instead of 0.4.2

Did you installed arm9loaderhax? If so, be sure to have the payload on the root of your SD, otherwise it will never boot.

It might be the case. Is yours o3ds or n3ds? if n3ds, did you go through the emunand unbricking option?
Yes i went threw the step as stated in the guide.

L+R+A+DPad Up do nothing for me.

Arm9loaderhax was the next step, i never made it past the reboot.

Install AuReiNand on your SD and reboot your console with the SD inserted. A9lh is unable to boot if you haven't a file called "arm9loaderhax.bin" placed on the root of your SD and a CFW compatible with it (a9lh).

He never got a9lh yet. He flashed to 2.1 so that he could try to get the OTP, but apparently something went wrong somewhere along the way.

So you downgraded, unbricked your emunand, restored it to sysnand and then brick?

Yep, I was editing my post infact... Probably if the console is a n3ds, he didn't unbrick properly his emuNand before to inject it on his sysNand.

could be that maybe he didn't format it twice with tiny format ik guide say to format it twice otherwise it will brick at the end
Just if your sysNand and emuNand are still linked after the first format. Also @FenrirWolf reported that it doesn't really matter if your Nands are linked or not for this process.

Formatting it twice is just to ensure your nands aren't linked. I did it without using tiny format because I knew how my nands were setup.

Same. I guess I could have tinyformatted again to unlink them but I didn't feel like bothering when I did the downgrade.

Yupz had the same thing happening to my N3DS.
Luckly i just had it hardmodded, so i could restore my 9.2 sysnand backup

had to try it 3 times, 3th time was succesfull.

[EDIT]
But the 3the time i did some extra steps:
- Took new fresh SD
- formatted sysnand (made sysnand backup)
- Made a new emunand with Gateway menu
- Updated emunand to 10.6 (Made emunand (emunand_10.6) backup)
- Setup wireless, got into eShop, changed theme
- Formatted Emunand with tinyformat
- intial setup and setup wireless, got into eShop, changed theme (Made emunand (emunand_10.6_clean) backup again)
- Downgraded emunand to 2.1 (made emunand (emunand_2.1_bricked) backup again)
- Fixed Emunand with OTPHelper
- flashed fixed emunand to sysnand with OTPHelper
- Worked

There is no correct order, just hold them down and pray.

If you have the receipt they might exchange it for you. Just tell them you were playing a game and it just shutoff and won't turn back on. That makes it a manufacturer defect.

EDIT: Hold the buttons down and press the power button. Do not release the buttons until the recovery menu appears.

You can just tell them that your wifi went out during an update and now it's borked. Or something along those lines.
