I started a poll/discussion thread a month ago about which way people preferred to play gba games on their 9.2 3ds. It was fun to read peoples arguments and the poll had over 150 votes :) That thread can be found here:

There are a lot of hype about SNES VC injection right now. So I thought it would be fun to start a similar thread, but this time about SNES VC injection VS. Retroarch SNES emulation.

I think SNES injection is very cool, no doubt about it! It would be awesome to have SNES games as CIAs, with banners and icons! But, I still prefer PocketSNES 99 days of 100. Why?

-Because PocketSNES plays many special chip games in fullspeed (Yoshis Island, Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star, Kirbys Dreamland 3, Mega Man X2, Mega Man X3, Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Use catsfc), Super Mario Kart etc...)

-Because in emulation you can tweak the image however you like. 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, whatever. Personally I prefer 1:1 or 4:3. But there are some games (Super Punch Out, Mario Kart, Street Fighter Alpha 2 etc.) that uses different (smaller) native resolutions. For those games it is very nice to adjust the image just like the way I want to play it. No compromises!

- In Retroarch you can turn off the lower screen. In SNES VC you will always have that pointless, ugly looking menu screen.

There is however a small possibility that I will have a folder in my home menu dedicated to SNES games. But that will only happen if Nintendo releases Star Fox and other special chip games that PocketSNES struggles with.

Your thoughts?

well SNES VC injection lets you launch the game from the home menu and ts fun to edit it just to make it work but i bet some one can mod PocketSNES and make a tiny 2mb cia install the makes a short cut to the rom so i wode say PocketSNES

Dunno. I haven't injected. Is it easy to do yet? I feel like for games that don't require special chips it'd probably be better.

For anything else, yeah, retroarch. Is pocketSNES now the better one to use now? I kinda stopped following retroarch a while back because of how darn fast everything was. I still update the files, but I'm no longer up to date on the advantages of each emulator and I rely on old habits.

I like vc injection mostly for the perfect pixel mode. It has a higher quality than retroarch, and higher compatibility then blargsnes. It is a bit small but bigger than blarg. Mariokart and other mode7 games are also compatible. The only thing that wont happen is superfx. Not only is it hard to emulate, but it cant be released on vc due to patent issues. Thats why the wii u uses yoshis island gba instead of snes.

Yeah, PocketSNES is fantastic :)

I am sure RetroArchs 1:1 has has the same pixel perfect quality as vc injection, no difference :)

It is more tweaking abilities in RetroArch. Some people like this, other people like the plug and play, no options, solution with vc injection. Both are great :)

Once Nintendo releases more of the VC I'll choose that because it just works better.

I agree that it is easier and more convenient. But I can't really agree with two posts above. Becuz RetroArch works better than snes vc injection, atm. But that could change over time....
It does, but i like it on my menu, so i dont forget about them. Pocketsnes for me has very slight sound pitch issues, and a poor frameskip. The games run at a high speed, but the framerate is low if that makes sense. Injection also has a better gui. I admit though retroarch has amazing support and options, and that is my choice for everything that cant be injected, like yoshis island. If snes could take advantage of dynamic recompiling id be all over that. I think thats what its called.

Well I feel like retroarch has more unstable framerate than the vc injection, like sometimes it can go fluctuating like crazy and you feel some huge frame drops whereas vc injection seems to keep a constant framerate so at least for now I'm sticking with that.
Although I must admit I would love the customizability in retroarch (especially the shaders and option for just a bit higher resolutions).

Btw. Both the gba vc injection and the snes vc injection has around 73 % of the votes. People seems to like the official Nintendo stuff!

Retroarch, by far. PocketSNES runs nearly every game flawlessly at full speed on N3DS. The picture quality is better than VC with the LQ2X video filter and core provided aspect ratio. The sound emulation isn't 100% perfect, but neither are VC injections.

I have been using blagsnes VC version injects, and the full screen option is great (and they install as CIA's and launch like VC's), but no real time save option.
