Homebrew Would 3D Movies be a possibility?

So possibly? Although that'd take up a lot of space in your memory card and there wouldn't be any 3d unless the movie was designed for it.

Yeah there isn't any point to it. And just use your laptop to watch something instead of a 3ds. I can't see why you'd ever use it for viewing a hour+ movie.

i don't know why a homebrew media player with 3d capability could not be written

2. A media player can't give you 3d for a movie. That's like saying that if you buy a pair of 3D glasses you can see everything in 3d as you're looking at a 2d picture.

1. No, but a 3D movie would play just fine.

2. A media player on a 3D capable device would be more than capable of 3D video playback, which indeed the 3DS is. It can play youtube in 3D, I see no reason it couldn't handle the appropriately encoded 3D media if somebody wrote the program. What are you talking about?

That not what he said. The question was if he could convert a 3D movie to cia and watch it on the 3DS which displays things in 3D without glasses. Not that convert a 2D movie to 3D.

I'm not sure what post you're reading, but he never said that. All he said was that the 3DS has glassesless 3D and thus would be nice to watch 3D movies on, and there's no reason a media player with the capability to play 3D video couldn't be written.

The thread title is about 3D movies and the question in the op was if he could convert "them" to cia. Anyone with a basic understanding of English can determine that by "them" he means 3D movies. So, the question is can he convert 3D movies to cia.

The topic of discussion is converting 3D movies to cia.

If you have a N3DS/N3DS XL, you can use the plex media player through the 3DS internet browser, if on your home computer you host 3D videos on the plex media server, you can choose to watch those films in 3D. I would know, I've used it before, currently I've only tried it with the 3D version of Guardians of the Galaxy, but I can confirm it does work.

Which does lead me to ultimately believe that if someone knew what they were doing, a 3DS homebrew media player could be developed that would be able to play 3D movies you own in a digital format. However, as always, easier said than done. Until then, I recommend Plex if you want to watch your movies in 3D on your 3DS. Its not a super simple setup though, I did have to use an online tutorial somewhere to get everything working properly, but once you do, you're golden.

And yeah, my home computer is always connected to the internet, so I'm always able to connect my 3DS to my media server when I'm out and about, so long as my 3DS has access to the internet. And with smartphones instantly being able to become wifi hotspots, getting the 3DS on the internet is rarely an issue, though of course if you're going to stream movie this way through a mobile hotspot, you'll want to make sure you have a large enough data plan for you phone.

I run a serviio server which is basically the same thing. It really does not matter what format the movie is originally in; if your device can not play it it will convert it to a format that is playable. Right now your video is .mp4 but plex can be converting it to anything for the 3ds. Maybe the 3ds does play .mp4 through the browser natively. That would make things a lot easier.

If I had an ezshare sd card I could probably whip something up in about an hour or so but sadly I do not.

Here's a breakdown of what needs to happen:

1. Get a wifi enabled sd card like ezshare.
2. Build a quick html page with links to the videos on your sd card.
3. Use the info in the link above to connect to the network created by the sd card.
4. Go to the html page you created.
5. Click the link to one of your videos.
6. ????
7. Profit.

If the video does not play try a different format.

The internet browser already plays movies so a full on media player is not really required.

EDIT: I did not fully read the thread about connecting to a network without Internet. Apparently you still need a PC for that.

EDIT 2: Forgot you they don't make ezshare cards in microSD format but it could still work with O3DS. If we get the connection thing figured out.

If only we had 3ds media player that could playback 3D media content via DLNA or samba. Forget using on board fat32 storage, most 3d movies exceed fat32 capabilities anyways.
