I actually used to read a lot of your articles when you were still a staff member and I was still lurking. I would personally love to see some of the old staff members be active again or at least hear what they think about the site now.

I started GBAtemp with KiVan in 2002, and I was the one to setup the website and the forum once we opened the community for the first time, and the very first account to be created on this forum (funny fact: KiVan wanted me to create his account as number 1 since he was the very first one to have this idea, and Alexander as #2, since they had it together... so I ended up creating my own account only as #3 hahahaa we are all very close friends attending the same faculty and seeing each other all day every day).

I'm still lurking on a daily basis this wonderful community, and I can't help but think of how life is strange.

This started as a silly idea from KiVan to create a quickly disposable single HTML page to have the links to download the latest 10 gba roms, in order to quickly share among us and our close friends.

Now it's a community with thousands of members and a almost 15 years history behind, still kicking asses every day, thanks to the wonderful work of all the current and past staff members, and past and current admins like costello and shaunj66! :-)

In case you were wondering what the fuck I'm talking about and wanna read more, you can find the full story here: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/History_of_GBAtemp

If anyone has some questions or curiosity over the early life of GBAtemp, I'm here to answer :-)

Enjoy guys!

So if you and KiVAN started the website how did @Costello become the new owner? I couldn't find any mention on gbatemp,I am just curious by the way.

I am confused though.I googled and it says GBAtemp is not owned by anyone. Who is the actual owner? As in who gets all the ad revenue,or who has the domain under their name?
The revenue gained from ads are used to host GBAtemo and other sites such as FileTrip and WikiTemp.

As far as anyone owning GBAtemp, I'm not sure however, Costello and tj_cool operate GBAtemp on a hardware/software base level

The website is worth over 2 Million USD dollars, running a website of this size would cost 300$ a month at the MOST. Someone clearly owns the 2 million dollars lol, site makes 1000 USD a day AT LEAST on advertisements.

Back in the days... :yay:

At least I'm not the only old guy (in terms of age, not membership) here with my 39 years of age... ;)

Tempy the mascot is the real owner, however he can't be arsed to do the day to day stuff and delegates it.
Kivan and co started the site and the domain followed, more http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/GBAtemp.net#History
Costello was staff during much of that and when Kivan wanted to step down the site was transferred for a token sum to Costello, who still owns it (not sure who has the whois data these days but it was his friend at one point) and is technically server botherer in chief, though tj_cool is also well entrenched in it all. Not sure if shaunj66 owns part of it, still makes many big decisions about site direction though -- before Costello either took break my stride too seriously or moved to China as it is something of a non extradition country him and Shaun shared a house and both went to the same school.
The business setup I am afraid will have to remain a mystery, however the headquarters in Monaco deal with a swiss back account that goes in turn to the Caymans and then gets variously spread over bitcoin (these days anyway, before it involved a cigar boat) and western union -- there is a reason Costello was able to do http://gbatemp.net/threads/paypal-cracking-down-on-flashcart-stores.324432/ just by sitting at a keyboard.

You do realise those what a site is worth websites are about as accurate a politician filling in a timesheet using a cheap watch, all while glancing at the Windows experience index and taking it as a challenge.

Nothing is worth anything until the moment you sell it.

WOW! excuse me for complimenting your quote!

I was speaking more of the content that is around here to make that the smartest thing, less your opinion of it. I do appreciate the kind words :grog:

Did you learn nothing from that business in Slovakia? It is when you have the cash in your hand or in your bank account.
I thought we agreed not to talk of this...
