Hi, I have just bought a 3DS xl (old style with start/select buttons at the bottom, brand new) and a gateway red/blue,
luckily the 3DS has 8.1 firmware,
I have tried to follow the gateway instructions to enter the gateway Menu With Menuhax + Homebrew Launcher
I have all the files on my sd card which is formatted to fat32 but when I launch the browser its just blank (white screen nothing happens)

so from doing some research it seems like this method may not work because my ds is on 8.1?

so i have bought a cartridge to update my 3DS to 9.2 (tomodachi life).
when i plug the cartridge in there is no update, maybe i have the wrong version of the cartridge?

can anyone advise me on which European cartridge will update my 3DS to 9.0 or 9.1

or a better way of accessing the gateway menu?

Updating with sysUpdater is better than using a game. IIRC, the game only only updates some stuff, the browser, etc doesn't get updated :/ But if you still want to know, go to 3dsdb.com :)

EDIT: Didn't see that you didn't have browser working Lol You maybe have a copy of Cubic Ninja or Ocarina of Time? If you did, then you could use Ninjhax/OOT3dHax to access Homebrew and use sysUpdater :)

Cooking Mama : Bon appétit has 9.2E but it's not a complete update, you should run sysupdater anyway to have browser up to date as of 9.2 firmware.

Guess I'm curious.. If I got a copy of Cooking Mama : Bon Appetit and updated to 9.2E, is it ONLY the browser that does not get updated? Or are there other parts of the firmware that do not get updated?

I'm in the U.S. but w/ a eu 3ds xl and 2ds.

Regular firmwares:

1. Launch rxTools
2. Inject FBI to SysNAND
3. Use FBI to install Sysupdater on SysNAND
4. Enter Pasta Mode and upgrade 9.2 CIA pack with Sysupdater

Frankenfirmwares:

1. Buy Cooking Mama (USA: SSB 9.2 - Note: Some SSB-USA are 9.6, they're useless)
2. Upgrade to 9.2 with Cooking Mama
3. Buy OoT or Cubic Ninja
4. Launch miniPasta with OoTHax/Ninjhax
5. Launch HBL in miniPasta -> Launch FBI -> Install Sysupdater
6. Upgrade 9.2 CIA pack with Sysupdater in miniPasta
