Because you were concerned about finding pornography on a random USB, who would be stupid enough to carry a device like that with them, most people also won't place viruses on their USB's, so both of your concerns are kind of silly.

if you are so paranoid, look at it in some linux mini-distro or something.

Format it to Ex FAT, or FAT 32, forget FAT 16, because that's useless.
Just plug it into a computer or mobile device to do that.
On a Mac you'll need to use Disc Utility and you can format it there.

And does that not prove how stupid this person is? Carrying around a flash drive that contains material like that is just asking for trouble, my point still stands, it's silly to carry around something like that.

but really @Natethekidrs00 just plug it on a public computer, or use linux\mac or even use a OTG cable on your android phone.. that, if you want to see what it contains (maybe it has sexy pictures of that sexy co-worker or crush?
maybe it has important stuff that the person would love to get back which you could try to give the stuff back to the person while keeping the cheap thumb drive for yourself as reward...
if you dont want to see what's inside you can also plug it to a console and format it..
