That looks amazing. I've never played any of the shenmue games, but I'll have to try this out given their reputation

Is this game still being made for PC? I've been so unclear about that ever since the PayPal kickstarter mentioning how it was only going to be a demo.

Looking good! I just wonder though, is it down to me to recap the story or will they do it for me?
It's been so long that all I really remember is that cliffhanger at the end of Shenmue II.

I honestly never finished 2. Played it for hours upon hours though. Remember the crane job on the docks? Haha, that epic dual in Shenmue.

Probably they will release a trilogy sometimes but for many it would help if they released the first two remastered for this gen. But a recap seems to be a more plausible (as well as the most boring and the laziest) option.

Wow, that looks amazing. It'd be great if they could port Shenmue 1 & 2 to PS4 (+ PC) and let the players play the previous two games before the third one.

Here's higher res, seems to be the highest available res at this time

I'm not sure why people say this looks incredible or even not achievable as in-game graphics. Are you guys sure you aren't being tricked by the low resolution the images are posted?

Shenmue Dojo posted some videos from the conference:

When I first saw the last 2 screenshots, I didn't even realize that they were of Shenhua's house from Disc 4 of Shenmue 2 and I've played through the game at least 10 times since I got it in 2001. When you see it in motion, it's instantly recognizable from the previous game even though the stills weren't at first. It's extremely faithful to the previous game, and looks great too.

I wonder if they'll be far enough along by the time E3 rolls around this year to show an early trailer. Per today's conference, they still haven't finished re-working the character models to be closer to the previous game. I suspect they're probably saving that for E3 or something.

Thank goodness. I really want to play this on my PC and have absolutely no intentions of getting a PS4. I got nothing against Sony (they are helping to make this possible) but I have no interest in their console or their games.
The reason why the Paypal slacker-backer campaign is only offering PS4 right now is due to some agreement they made with the company that's going to distribute the PC version upon release. They haven't given any details, but I assume they made some kind of agreement with that company to have exclusive rights to sell the game after the kickstarter ended. The slacker-backer thing probably wasn't considered in the initial contract, and after so many people asked about PayPal they added it but hadn't re-negotiated with their invisible PC partner. The PS4 Physical release option came a few weeks into the Kickstarter, I think they worked that out directly with Sony instead of having another company handle it. In Sony's case, they're going to make the same amount of money either way, whereas with the PC version the 'publisher' loses out on some potential sales they could've got a cut of.
This is just speculation, but it seems like the most logical explanation to me. The Paypal funding probably should have been cut off already, but I think they're still trying to re-negotiate to be able to offer physical PC copies to people who couldn't use Kickstarter for various reasons. They also said they'd allow kickstarter people to 'upgrade' their pledges, which they haven't come up with a system for yet either. I'm personally waiting for that. I spent a lot of money on the kickstarter but now that several months have passed I could give them even more money.

A recap was one of the first stretch goals for the kickstarter and it was reached. So even if Sega doesn't re-release 1 & 2 there's still going to be a recap. Yu Suzuki has mentioned several times including again today that he has no control over whether the first two are re-released, Sega only gave him the rights to continue the series not port the previous games. I still have a working Dreamcast and copies of both games, but I'll definitely buy HD remakes to play again if they're re-released.

I loved the second one, I used to play it all the time on my original Xbox (back in 06/07). I'm so glad that Sony is doing this. I been waiting for this for a long time, I love the Yakuza Series but ik Shenmue 3 is gonna Elevate the series and keep me entertained. I've been missing that peaceful but deadly vibe for a while now.

I'm curious how much you mean by "a lot" in regards of funding the KS campaign, if you feel like sharing the detail
Based on total # of backers vs. the number of people in each tier, inside the top 1%. (Although on the low end of that.)

I loved the 2nd one too, although I had the Dreamcast version imported from the UK.
I never played anything in the Yakuza series until Yakuza 4, which was a good game. I pre-ordered the US release of 5 as soon as they started taking orders for it last fall, and that was a really good game too. They're definitely more fleshed out from a storyline standpoint and faster paced than Shenmue was, but I miss the day/night system and there's a lot less interactivity with things going on in the game world. (No vending machines, fewer buildings you can enter, lots of generic people on the streets) The demo of Yakuza 6 looks awesome, especially with seamlessly entering/leaving buildings with no load times. It's a great series and I hope Yakuza 0 comes out soon here so they can announce a western release of 6.

Man, I hope they release the first two games in physical format again because Shenmue 1 & 2 are going for ridiculously high amounts right now and can't quite consider that as it'd be a blind buy. I've never played Shenmue before but am looking forward to this.
