Wow, that is impressive. Are there any electronics involved in making the LEDs light, or is the speaker output connected directly to the LEDs?

None, just connected right to the areas where the speaker pins are for the ribbon cable.

Looks cool, but won't it get distracting while playing?

That's a lot simpler than I thought, I would have thought that connecting it directly to the speaker pins would either destroy the LED due to too much current or simply not produce the desired effect.

I got used to flashing lights in the PSP days :)

That is pretty damn awesome. Looks wild. Be cool to make each led flash in the color of the SNES buttons.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Once you have it more streamlined and down, you could totally make diy kits for people and probably sell them on kitsch-bent.

That is some sweet modding right there. Keep us posted on how stable it is. I would think that the raw output from the speaker would be too much on the LEDs without a resistor holding it back

Very nice mod, it too reminded me of the old PSP days. Back then I saw mods like that relatively often, but now it seems a lot less common.

Yeah I literally searched high and dry for someone that has modded a recent item like this. Seems non existent.

I'm planning on doing my wife's to match the coloring on the n3DS's, I'll post something when I get around to testing that fully.

So cool! I would definitely buy one of these. ^_^

I'd love to open up a service doing things like this, but prices wouldn't be too cheap. Most of it is the labor costs, not including designing the buttons it took me about 5-6 hours of work.

For blue LED's I think it's just barely under the limit, I think doing red LEDs would be too much.
