Hardware Opinions on updating via cart

What exactly are the pro's and con's of updating your system via a cart instead of using the sysupdater?

For ex: Has a 3ds on something lower than 9.0-9.2 using the Super Smash Bro's Cart rev02 to update to 9.2.0-17


Would you be missing any important system titles? If I did this myself I would just be autobooting into reinand cfw anyways.

Also would using this method fix anything wrong with your system if you used sysupdater and got a frankenware 3ds? Like if you had downgraded to 9.0 then used this to update to 9.2, would it fix the missing titles? on a side note I feel this method would help avoid frankenware.

No but finding a game with 9.0 is not easy

Well I have a sky3ds blue button. (planning to get rid of it soon anyways.) I am getting a 3ds on 10.3 soon. I want to downgrade it and avoid frankenware at all costs. In my case I could easily get a cart with 9.2 which I searched and found one of super smash bro's carts has 9.2 on it. So if I needed I could quickly use the rom and update to 9.2 using sky3ds.

Well then sell the sky and hit up @hundshamer for a nand mod install, problem solved.

Honestly after getting the 3ds that's on 10.3 at the moment, I won't have much funds to get his nand mod. I asked him about a hardmod and after finding out how much it'll be I don't think I'll have enough for that. So with quick thinking this was the best method I could come up with:

Buy the 10.3 n3ds
Use safesysupdater to downgrade from 10.3 to 9.0
Use super smash bros 9.2 cart rom via sky3ds
Update to 9.2.0-17
Install reinand cfw.
Get rid of sky3ds
Get rid of my extra gateway 3ds as well.

then sell both the sky and gateway here is in the WTS section then get the Nand mod.

You can also downgrade directly to 9.2 instead of going to 9.0 and then updating to 9.2

the sky3ds has cubic ninja on it which is my only entry point atm. I could sell the gateway though and still be able to have a homebrew entry point.

Also: my post count isn't high enough yet for the trade section on here. which I realize it would be annoying of me to post a hundred times in one day just to get to it. lol

True but the last time I tried that it resulted in frankenware and that was a month ago and it BRICKED my 3ds and at the time I found no online solution to fixing the frankenware. Now I'm left with getting a new n3ds.

So that 3ds still turns on it's just a black screen now. I still have a 9.2 bin file backup because I backup everything I just can't solder anything myself. I already ordered a n3ds and it'll be on it's way here but I would still like to get my bricked one fixed and have that one working too. I just didn't have the funds to get a hardmod. A permanent hardmod would be better incase I ever did anything stupid again. Knowing me, that could happen. Knowing me I make backups in case I lose anything. But yes I still have the bricked 3ds. Decided to keep in case I could ever get it fixed.

I'm pretty sure that @hundshamer can also do the downgrade for you if you get a nand mod on either of your systems. This way, you know your 3ds will be safe!
