I have always been wanting to know the answer to this but never get a straight answer

Many people use all different size msd / sd cards in their consoles, personally I have 2 separate 64gb msd cards (I found the 128gb quite slow)

My question is... How much working space (free space) should be left on your card ?

I heard that some large games like SSB require working space, but i rarely play it so don't know

Does anyone know the actual answer to this ?

Or does it not matter at all ?

Incidentally I leave 5gb space on both cards

A lot. I have a 32GB card, but I only like 2-3 (Plus animal crossing) games on it at time, because that's all I'll ever really play. Then theres probably 6GB of homebrew+NAND dumps.

SSB doesn't need any working space. It stores everything in its extdata, which is always the same size.

Never ever knew that, thanks mate, guess it was a false rumour then

So it it fair to say that 1gb or possibly even less would be sufficient as available space or you suggest more ?

1 gig should be more than enough. I doubt you could play all the games it takes to fill the 64 gig sd ;)

I think the 3DS doesn't need any working space at all, it does pretty good SD management. The only thing SSB saves separately are screenshots.

I was/am more interested in the myth that you needed to leave X amount of space on your card for "working with"

But it does indeed seem to be a myth
