So I installed homebrew a while ago, but today I decided i didn't want it anymore. I found a guide that tol dme to delete all the files except Nintendo 3DS folder and DCIM. Upon doing this, i reopened my 3ds and started up Tri Force Heroes - but all the updates were gone. I checked all the other games, and the update data was gone. I went to the eshop, but it said I already downloaded the updates. WHAT DO I DO? I really need to know if there's a way to restore everything without deleting my save data.

did you make a backup of the stuff you deleted? you need to restore the "private" folder. that contains downloadable data from the eshop

If you didn't touch the nintendo 3ds folder, updates should not have been deleted, just redownload them fromt the eshop

The updates probably still exist in your Nintendo 3DS folder, but some necessary data from your private folder in missing. If you must, you could back up your saves onto your PC, delete the whole Nintendo 3DS folder, and then re-download everything (both games and updates).

Much of my save data is on cartridges, will that be a problem?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

also the main problem is that the titles say they need to be updated, but when i go to the eshop it says theyre already updated

Thats the thing - I cant redownload, it tells me i cant redownload them, saying ive already downloaded them. I also noticed that when I remove my sd card, it allows me to update, but nothing actually happens

Saves on cartridges will stay on cartridges. Only digital game saves would need to be backed up because those exist in the Nintendo 3DS folder.

What I mean is that when you delete the Nintendo 3DS folder, all of your downloaded content will be gone. After that it should certainly let you re-download it. But that is a bit extreme.

Welp... I think I should just backup everything and delete everything. That way I won't lose any data, right?

Yes, as long as you're able to restore your save data once you re-download everything. You may want to research that because I've never done it. You would use Nintendo's Save-Data Backup feature, which I believe creates a .sav file in your Nintendo 3DS folder.

out of curiosity, what guide did you follow? misinformation isn't cool
It was one of the first options that showed up when I googled how to uninstall homebrew - but it isn't really misinformation... I can tell that I just misunderstood the instructions, which is where I went wrong I guess...

Just redownload all the updates. You deleted the private folder. Try following a more reliable guide next time.

They already said re-downloading doesn't work. Although maybe there is some data they have to delete first in the 3DS Data Management.

Did you empty the trash on your computer?

Something I would have tried would have been to choose to delete the triforce heroes game from data management. It should offer to do a backup of the save. Then, redownload it, let it restore your save, and then see if it lets you get your updates. Might have worked, not sure.

Or was it a cart game? Anyway, it's a weird issue to have at all, but glad to know it's pretty much fixed for you.
