So what is the best way to 64 these days?

I still got a working N64, the only problem is after playing with modern consoles.. the controllers for it are freaking horrible and get damaged easily! I spent hours opening them up and cleaning them, but still barely work. Another thing, buying games for n64 costs a small fortune these days, so I have 3 questions:

1)Is there some sort of "cartridge" you can buy, that my n64 will read and you can put roms on it?

2)Is there some sort of third party controller that is recognized by an N64 but fixes the problem with the joystick?

3)What is the best way to emulate n64 these days? I tried playing Goemons Greate Adventure on my PC with 3 different emulators, but no matter what the graphics still look like shit (its about 70% accurate). I also tried it on my modded Xbox and Wii and same results...and yes I also tried different graphics plugins.

Thanks boys and girls!

The Wii and 360 have a bit of trouble rendering some of the visuals of the N64. Did you try Proj. 64...? It's fairly accurate. There's nothing you can really do but buy old controllers and games for your console, or emulate it.

1. Everdrive 64 v3 http://shop.krikzz.com/EverDrive-64-v3-ED64V30.htm

2. I'd reccomend the HoriPad for the N64. It's decent.

3. N64 Emulation is quite shitty, actually. Mupen64++ might be your best bet, but Project 64 is OK too. Although, don't expect any N64 emu that is out right now to be 100% perfect. Almost all N64 emulators right now are "meh".

1) An N64 flash cart? Yes. Most would go for the everdrive 64. One review http://gbatemp.net/review/everdrive-64-v2.178/

2) If you mean the spring that dies then not that I have seen, most seem to just endlessly replace the springs. If you mean something that adapts it or appears as a real controller but made by someone that has a vague idea about human anatomy (think some of the things people made for keyboard and mouse control on the 360) then I have not seen one but it could be out there, I saw a few things at the time.

3) We did have another thread http://gbatemp.net/threads/which-n64-emulator-do-you-use-and-why.405326/ but for the most part N64 emulation was good enough for my purposes, just needed a faster machine (which we all doubtless have these days) quite some time ago.

The real answer. Has the game you want to play been remade on the PC, xbox (MS own Rare after all and I hold their XBLA port of Perfect Dark to be one of the finest examples of the concept of enhanced port ever, also http://gbatemp.net/review/rare-replay.358/ ) or something else? Great, play it there instead. This accounts for a surprising amount of the N64 library as well.

Bonus. N64 RGB mod. Might be worth a look into.

Also you can mod it for RGB (Component) cables. It's a pretty advanced process, it requires soldering and such. But I believe there is someone who does it on eBay for like 50 bucks more or less. My friend had it done and it made it look great.

As other people have said, everdrive 64v3. Get a flash cart and never worry about paying expensive prices for some n64 games ever again. As far as the n64 controller is concerned, you can swap out the n64 joystick with a nintendo gamecube like joystick instead. Something like this.

There is also the everdrive 64. The newest version is v3.

Here's a link

I have an everdrive v2. Best purchase for a 64, ever.

Woah Everdrive looks exactly what I am looking for, now I need to decide whether I should save for ps4, or buy that and a Wii U (just for Xenoblade 2 lol)

Lucar is the Horipad just a gamepad? I am already using a 360 controller for that, works pretty great.

And I guess if I get Everdrive, emulation wont matter anymore.

LOL didnt understand your second point, but I got a feeling its something naugthy 0_0

As for it being remade... the games I want to get are rather obscure so they have not even shown up on the Virtual Console, I guess another possibility is that someone does an inject for them on the Wii, but virtual console games tend to take up a lot of space on the Wii hardrive even tho they were like 5mb originally lol

That sounds good! But does someone sell them controller with that already installed? Or do I have to mod it myself? Not that its a problem... its just annoying lol

You will not have to look hard to find posts of mine laced with innuendo and similar things, however that was not an example of it.
At the time of the N64 I saw some things on old Hong Kong import sites and magazines that attempted to adapt other types of controller to the N64. They were pretty poor for most things and certainly not worth looking for today. Starting from scratch now imagine I could make a far nicer one (like everdrive came in with designs based around modern electronics and now dominate the old console flash cart market then I reckon I could do something similar with controller adapters and program them all up for whatever I liked) but that remains but an idea at this point so nothing I can point you at to buy. Similar things for newer consoles exist, the example I picked being the mouse and keyboard adapters made for the PS360 like http://xim4.com/
As for straight up third party controllers that fixed issues with the abortion that was the N64 pad then I never liked any I saw back in the day and though I have not kept as close an eye on things since as I might I have not seen anything I will get excited for.

N64 games cost a fortune? Some do, but of the 300 game library not that many. I'd consider anything (cart only) priced over the original $50 retail price as expensive, same thing I do with their older consoles too. If you think N64 is bad I hope you run away screaming from the NES and especially the SNES as the trouble making profiteers have made them nauseatingly aggravating to even try and enjoy legitimately anymore.

With the n64 if you think a $30 or so game is a fortune, perhaps you need to lay a small fortune down on a N64 Everdrive cart and just throw a bunch of ROM copies at it of legit games and be done with it. That'll be your worst expense, and second to that would just be buying some replacing N64 controllers without jacked up joysticks which really isn't hard.

Emulators are a hit and miss joke. N64 emulation from day one was never handled right or all that well and I think it just lingers in a land of suckitude ever since to a degree. To deal with the high requirements of the hardware back in the later 1990s the went with HLE inventing the idea of taking as many liberties and short cuts (hacks) as possible to get some games running at fast acceptable rates with as little to no defects as possible in play, visuals and audio. Eventually people then tried to make more accurate cores, then broke those cores into the visuals, the main guts, and the audio. Now you got this mixed bag of everyone trying to do their own thing, then having those things negotiate with the base emulator itself. This again while far better creates problems and holes, as does some still general lack of a little bit of information causes some games still to run like crap (slow, defects, or with Indiana JOnes/Battle for Naboo not at all.) N64 emulation while fairly viable still somewhat sucks, I'd take a flash cart over it.

Also if you just hate the N64 controller, there's this US 3rd party one, the superpad I think it was, it's more normal controller shaped kind of, has no 3 pronged fit to it, and the D-pad and stick are both on the left side so everything is accessible.
