Hacking O3DS drowned, got a new one. What can I do to restore my emunand/sysnand backup?

Hi Gbatemp,

I'm not sure where to start with this one. I'd had my 3DS hacked for all of one month before tragedy struck.

After a week in a rice jar the LCD screen cracked. I still have the SD card, and I have a nand backup from when I originally installed rxTools. I'm buying a new O3DS off a friend tomorrow that should be hackable. What's the easiest way to restore my data so I can keep playing the games I was playing before?

Thanks so much for the help.

If your Old 3ds wont boot, then you need to call nintendo and tell them what happen to unlink the 3ds with your nnid so you can redownload them in a new system..BTW You cant use a nand.bin backup with a diffrent system, nand.bin are link to the hardware, not software so the nand backup you have cant work with another old 3ds...

Well, unless you can somehow boot up the old 3DS (as in the first one that's damaged), consider the data lost (though not the NNID, see James's post, you can get that back), since every 3DS's NAND and SD data are unique to each specific console. If by some miracle you can still boot it, use SVDT, SaveDataFiler, or that new homebrew save manager CIA (I forgot the name, sorry) to get your raw saves ASAP, then import them on the new unit.

Wow, I never imagined it would be that bad! I thought at least the emunand would be salvageable? Are the save files for those games not on the card?

There is still a little water behind the screen, although most of it has gone now. I'll leave it for a few more days before trying to turn it on. Thanks for the help.

SD card games (i.e. CIA games/eShop games) do save onto the SD card, but the data is encrypted and locked to the specific 3DS that used it, which is why you need a tool like SVDT or SaveDataFiler to get them in an unencrypted format.

Did you turn it on to see if it works? If you did.....your 3ds is fryed, electronics can survive water as long if no electric current is going through it, why would you turn it on if you knew if water was still in it? Some people actually wash thier pc motherboard by dipping in a bucket of water and make sure theres no current flowing

As a portable device with an "integrated" battery I am very sad to inform you that current is always present to keep the system clock running, among other circuitry ready to boot.

doesn't guarantee the 3DS is busted though

small things like keeping the clock running use a secondary circuit afaik? you can't be sure the MB is fried

As long as the battery is fried, everything could be fried. A shortcircuit in the three exposed battery pins is very easy to get you in this wet cases. This is because the battery is "removable" and the connectors for it are not water-proof. The shortcircuit can get to the mobo through the battery data pin and fry everything processing the battery state, as well as the internal clock.

Not a funny thing.

EDIT: Also, if you have managed to get the battery shortcircuited, get ready for the rumble as you can almost guarantee the water has got in the motherboard through the SD slot, and guess what: water conducts electricity so it can effectively fry any data pin on any exposed integrated on the mobo. (Like the points we solder in when hardmodding, and that could potentially fuck up your nand).

If he gets nother 3DS he can try this though i cant guarantee results.
This works on restoring Emunand games list and saves if nand corrupted and you had no backup.
Dunno if it will work console to console

Restore Emunand.bin to the replacement Emunand, boot rxtools menu (not the emunand) Extract seeds.bin secureinfo title.db and import.db

Delete Emunand and Create a fresh one.

Inject the extracted files into this emunand. Copy Old SD contents over to the 3ds.

Try booting Emunand see if you have your games and saves

That probably won't work, since the other 3DS won't understand how to decrypt or use the emuNAND backup.

maybe he can just extra the files from the emunand.bin pretty sure there is a Program on gbatemp that does it

good chance it could work once injected into new 3ds emunand since it doesnt touch System files really, only changes the redirected Folder to the Old content and also tells it what games /saes are installed

If he didn't dump xor pads from the nand before the accident (to decrypt his emunand) the only solution is to get his broken device working or start from new.

But no current is going through the sensitive part of the system, the 3ds battery is what holds the clock data

Refer to my Quote above this page why this can't work....

Except im not on about the hardware part Yes a FULL nand is linked to hardware.

Im on about specific files which you can flash though like seeds.bin title.db and import.db which handle where the files are installed too and what files are installed on the SD card.

They only handle folder redirections and titlelist

You're wrong. It's like opening a black box with the wrong key. The 3ds can't read foreign emunands. Only with xor pads he can extract content outside of the original 3ds.
