Beating Gateway at their own game... I like it.
Well, more like catching up...
What's tragic is that all they have to do to beat gateway is open source their card and then ntrcard hax could be made to work by homebrewers.

Yes, it would be copycatted, but they would get a nice sales surge for a while (you know, actually being relevant for a change).

Yeah...I don't get why people pay for this stuff when CFW is free and easy to use.

There's little point now aside from .3ds support like Lucifer mentioned, and slightly easier emuNAND setup (you can use Gateway to directly run FBI, DevMenu, NASA, or whatever in .3ds format, to get yourself a CIA manager installed in CIA format without needing to dirty your sysNAND or emuNAND with Health and Safety injections). Oh, and cheats, I suppose. Gateway's cheat menu seems pretty robust.

you can go the long way and use minipasta to actually install the .cia without h&s injection although i personally always just inject fbi into h&s in my emunand ( i dont touch sysnand)

I think Gateway and others like it will take a serious sales hit as a result of A9LH. Just saying. Not a hater. I have one but since installing A9LH flashcards have minimal appeal. RIP BLUECARD v1.05 PUBLIC BETA. I suppose those who fear the lengthy A9LH process will continue to use flashcards for safety reasons.

I don't think they'll take any hit compared to how things are currently. Setting up CFW is pretty easy but there are still people who choose to use Gateway because it is easier than setting up CFW. A9LH is going to be harder than plain setting up a CFW, so there would be no reason that a potential Gateway user would be drawn away from it (as they are not drawn away by CFW already).

@Quantumcat I was talking more like future sales. Most people either already own a Gateway or have CFW. For people getting into the game this late I think CFW is the best option. And Sky3DS users really must be questioning their purchase now. Clunky button pushing to switch roms. Great idea, terrible implementation.

Yeah but anyone who isn't interested in CFW now & in the future isn't going to be more likely to go for A9LH than a simple Gateway or Sky. Like if someone has a small appetite and would rather go for the truffle & foie gras slice than the burger with the lot even though the burger is cheaper, if an all-you-can-eat buffet opens next door for even cheaper, they are still going to prefer the slice (they already rejected more food for cheaper before).
A9LH = ????
really though what the fuck is A9LH?
Arm9LoaderHax - allows true coldboot, 100% success rate and no 3D issue on the n3DS. Involves (currently) downgrading your console to 2.1 to get special console-unique keys for it (OTP). Then you have to compile your own private arm9loaderhax.3dsx file which uses those keys.

Edit: I added you to my sig again, because this will be funny when A9LH is a big thing :P

Aside from easily creating your own backups, Gateway is just easy for 'scene' 3DS files to be played off-line; pop out microSD, put in computer, copy over .3ds files, put microSD back in GW, play. That takes a minute to a couple of minutes depending on the number of .3ds files you have. Ideal for people who aren't too technical but do have some basic skills and you don't want to come running to you every other day.

You can backup save files by just copying the .sav file on your regular sd and copying it back when you want to go back in time. You can run BigBlueMenu.3ds to install .cia files (incl. DevMenu.cia, BigBlueMenu.cia, FBI.cia, etc.) to your EmuNAND which you can later use in CFW that boots the same EmuNAND.

When A9L matures and CFWs support .3ds files natively (incl. by means of running a CartLoader.cia) that can't be trivially defeated with AP measures, then GW is going to be in trouble.

This is the first time I've ever even heard of Blue3ds and their website heavily reminds me of Gateway's. Are they just another clone?

If it would have been priced at 25€ and have been a market crasher, then yes.

But now I don't like it.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card

Slightly slower loading but a bit more convenient
