Hey guys!

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm new to this 3DS flashcard thing. I've bought a used New 3DS just for it, to have the new 3DS model, but the person who sold it to me gave me also a R5 flashcard with some games inside it and it works perfect with them, even with my previous 3DS XL.

But, since I'm trying to add new games to the flashcard, I'm not having success. I'm using the DiskWriter v2.02, getting the latest template file from the Sky3DS website and writing some ROMs that are not very recent since I've known that R5 does not support the, but I only have failed. For example, I've tried to copy Star Fox 64 and Tetris Axis.

The copy process itself, I guess, is Ok. But, when I insert the card inside the 3DS, the blue led blinks, the game appears and little short after it, the blue led blinks again and load the next game in the card or, it there's only one, it keeps loading and loading the same game. It just does not stand still, ready to start it.

If I try to start it before it loads again, right after the screen shows a message that the game cartridge has been removed.

What am I missing about all this? Am I doing something wrong or incompletely? Please, somebody help me.

Thank you so much for reading! Take care!

Test your microSD to make sure it is genuine. Download h2testw, back up all the files on your SD, format your SD, then run read & write check with h2testw. It'll take a few hours but let it finish.

Thank you, Quantumcat. But where should I format it? On Windows Explorer, it shows me only FAT, exFAT and NTFS system file options. FAT, as default selected, tells me it's 512 KB capacity but, in fact, it's a 32GB MicroSD card. If formated on FAT system file, the h2testw did not take many second to finish the test, showing me the following results:

Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 0.00 KByte/s
Reading speed: 0.00 KByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Thank you for your precious help.

Did it even write anything?

Did it even write anything?

Well, I guess DiskWriter have done this to my MicroSD card when I've formated it using the app. But, minutes ago, I've inserted the card into my smartphone and the Android could format ir correctly as a 32 GB FAT32 card. So, I'm running the "Write + Verify" test on H2testw app as Quantumcat told me to. Let's wait for the results.

Despite this, do you guys think the problem is the MicroSD card only? But what about the other MicroSD card, with 16 GB, that came along with the R5 I've bought? Inside it there were alrealdy 3 games that are still working but all others I triy to write to it works the same way I've told on the 1st message: the game loads, showing all the artwork and playing sounds but, immediately, the R5, itself, without me pressing the button, loads the next game I've copied and so on until it loads a game that already was inside the card and stants still, waiting for me to start it.

I mean, the games transfered by the guy who use to own the card before me works perfect; the new ones I've transfered do not work. Would be the ROMs that are with bugs? Or the template file? Every ROM I write, before the writing process, the app shows me a message about some instruction that had to be replaced due to a missmatch or something, but I've watched some YouTube videos where some guys tell this is normal.

Ok, thank you guys, again, for your patience and your help! I appreciate a lot!

The results are the following:

Warning: Only 29706 of 29707 MByte tested.
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 5.28 MByte/s
Reading speed: 6.12 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Do they tell something?

One more time, thank you for helping me!

Sounds like your mSD is fine! Maybe LittleRod has the answer.

I've read about this 10-game limit, but the problem occurs even when the mSD has only one game inside.

The main issue is driving me mad is the fact that the mSD that originally came with the R5 has games that work and the new ones I'm trying to write to it just don't.

IIRC, the R5 Flashcart has a 10games-limit.

Thank you, but the flashcard has less than 10 games. Besides, sorry for my ignorance, what is "IIRC"?

Thank you!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

maybe i'm wrong but r5 is not sky3ds clone

And what does that mean? I need to download the template file from another source?

Thank you!

R5 is a clone of the red button sky3ds card. You can only play 10games on it. Those games are permanently tied to the card. If you wantto play more, issues arrive like you explained. The title Id of the games is stored in a list on the sky3ds eeprom chip so the games are not forgotten.

It was a marketing decision. So ppl will buy more then one card. Later revisions of this card lifted the 10games limit.

I've discovered a method to circumvent this limit by injecting manipulated header into the partition and crash the card on purpose, but it's not user friendly and it is only possible to play one game per Microsd. Also the games need to be special converted.
I never released it officially because the interest in it was lost very fast.

Thank you for such detailed explanation. So, as I've understood, certainly the previous owner had already written 10 games to the card, even if they had been deleted and now there are only 3, and I'm not having success writing new ones, right?

Is there a way to install those later revisions you've mentioned? Or the fact is that this card isn't usable anymore?

Last, if I buy a Sky3DS+ today, it's still the better decision about flashcards and in time to enjoy the games released until today with no issues?

Thank you so much!

Right.

No it's not possible to install something. You have to buy a new one or use tricks to circumvent this limit. Not user friendly.

If you are on fw10.5 then yes, you should go with a sky3ds+. Keep in mind to play online, you need a private header from a game you own. (Need a homebrew3ds to dump that) else your 3ds/nnid can be banned. Use search to get more information
If you are on fw <=10.3 you could downgrade your 3ds to fw9.2 and install a cfw for free where you can install digital versions of the games and play them online without issues.

Thank you again! I've understood everything concerning the online playing; but, for playing just locally, I would not have major problems, right?

Do you, in particular, use another flashcard model? If so, which one? Do you recommend it? Thanks!

Cool! And are there a limit of games inside it? Or I can write, delete, write again, delete again every game I wish?

About the online playing issue, what do you say? Do you play online normally? What's the FW version you are using?

Thank you!

Im using a sky3ds Red Button in combination with Gateway. I have pretty much all options available. With sky3ds I can load cubic ninja/Zelda exploits and with gateway I used to boot emunand. I bought those when no options where available for N3DS except Sky3ds.

Now with cfw available for free, it doesn't matter if you buy those cards or not. There is no real benefit anymore. For me a downgrade for one of the 3ds failed and I was lucky to have a sky3ds with ninjahaax to unbrick it.

No game limit, you can do what you want. and you don't need diskwriter or gamelist.bin.
i never get banned with my private header (i'm playing online games almost everyday but since 1 month). i'm on 10.5.0-30
