Don't know about you, but I'm getting a bit tired of the large pixels from the XL. My N3DSXL is the standard machine I use. I also have a regular N3DS that I modded recently. I played with it some sessions to see how it feels compared to my XL. One thing I can tell for sure is that the regular N3DS has a superior built quality. The plastic feels better than the thin, glossy XL one and it doesn't produce clicky sounds when closing/opening the lid. There are no sharp edges either. The displays look crispier, although the colors are not as vibrant as the XL's. Especially compared to an IPS XL screen, colors look washed out a bit.

So yeah, right now I'm torn on which system to use as my primary one. Anyone else here with this first world problem?

I used to have both, old 3DS then I switched to old XL and then I bought the "small" N3DS because I loved the idea of faceplates. I enjoyed the big screen of XL when I played at home (even though the pixels are big af and you can even see the RGB subpixels with naked eye) but it's not really practical thing to carry with you everywhere. N3DS screen is slightly bigger that the o3DS so I thought it will be nice compromise but no. I have the N3DS for like half a year and still miss the big screen. Personally I would love to play on XL at home and take the small one out, but there is nothing like savegame synchronization. I am thinking about making some homebrew for this (since we have Sharing of Isaac it should't be impossible...)

Well I'm used to the small screens because I also have a 2ds and it doesn't really bother me, but the whobbly screen of the xl worried me a bit, I feel it shaking when I'm on a bus or whatever

I really didn't notice anything like this, I think the o3DS XL screen is acting same as the n3DS screen (except the clicking noise when opening the XL but I like it)

I started with the original blue o3DS, moved to an XL when the X/Y limited edition consoles came out because they looked sexy.
Went from the XL to a small n3DS because of the same issue you are having, the XL's screen simply looks really pixelated and it's kind of jarring.
The o3DS screen is tiny after having used a XL, but the n3DS' screen size feels just right. I like the large screens on the XL, and if the 3DS had a somewhat higher resolution I would prefer the XL's screens, it does feel more luxurious. I don't regret getting the small n3DS though. I just wish they would make some awesome limited edition-tier faceplates for it, instead of all the boring ones with stock images of mario characters etc.

I don't think you should worry. From what I heard they made it more wobbly to try to prevent the issue with cracked hinges, so it is probably actually better for the hinge in the long run.

About clicking sounds when opening 3DSes:
Blue 3DS - Click, wobbly
Red 3DS - No click, not wobbly
Black N3DS - No click, but LR buttons are clicky, not wobbly
White N3DS - Click, but LR buttons aren't clicky, wobbly
Personal experience from EU consoles.

My N3DS XL isn't wobbly at all. After first owning a DSi XL I can never go back to a smaller screen. My eyes are too bad even with bi-focal glasses to ever play on something smaller. Kinda like how I can never go back to a smaller size PC monitor after using my 47" tv as one.

My daughter bought a N3dsXL when they came out, thinking the N3DS would not come to north America (seeing as how they specifically said it would not). She played it daily. Once the N3DS DID come to north America, she got one and gave her N3DSXL to her younger brother and has not looked back. She loves the N3DSXL much better!

Wait, that doesn't make sense. Why would she give the XL away if she likes it better than the regular n3ds?

My NNID has actually been on all of the models (system transferred a lot). I finally have it settled on my N3DS. I sold my N3DSXL to get the ACHHD bundle, and I'm very happy with it. I think the size is perfect, and it just feels right. Nintendo really knows how to rock the handheld world :)

Hey so I moved from an American O3DS XL to a Japanese N3DS (non XL)

I practically don't use my XL anymore unless trading Pokemon. the N3DS is so slick, I love the faceplates, the screen size is perfect. The XL is too big but the original 3DS is too small. The N3DS is just right.

I also use my XL when I'm about to play Smash competitively so I hook up my game grip to it,but that's about it

I'm not bothered by the larger pixels of the XL, since both consoles have the same resolution so games are rendered with the same amount of detail.

Does the regular N3DS have really wobbly ZL/ZR buttons, or is it just the XL?
