Top part of home page missing?

The bit at the top that last had "Gamers Can Read part 2" (as seen here https://web.archive.org/web/20160205024252/http://gbatemp.net/) is entirely missing for me!

Also, hovering over the 'HOME' tab doesn't show me anything anymore, whereas previously it revealed an option to customise the portal.

What's happened?

Due to an unforeseen problem it's been temporarily disabled. I don't know when exactly it will be restored, but it's being worked on.

Not to mention Shoutbox is no longer there, I can't remove the News module from my Portal and I can only upload avatars max. 50KB in size (the rules say it can be 80KB of you don't have a signature).

Yeah, but the rules say you have 80KB which is your avatar and signature size, combined. I have no signature, therefore I should be able to use the 80KB for my avatar.

well, use Jpeg, I dunno.

I could crush my transparent avatars into 50kb just fine. so you definitely could know how to. Or use Gravatar.

But that feeling when I spend a lot of time on a good avatar only to find out it's 50,96KB! And IDK how should I compress images on my phone.

Yeah that's my biggest concern. not the panel at the top, but the fact that the hover options are gone

Oh OK! I assume when it's fixed the hover options (e.g. customise portal) will be back too?

The drop down menus have been disabled and likely will remain so as most of the functionality they served was superfluous. That which was to be found only in there will shortly be moved elsewhere, to a more logical place applicable to just that function. Likewise, the header bar on the front page with the ad and featured articles will be restored shortly as well.

No functionality has been removed from the site, though the links to access some things have been for the moment. If you need links to anything else not currently available feel free to ask and I'll do my best to track it down.

@SomeGamer the 80KB combined limit isn't a hard limit that's imposed by anything, that's a soft rule that we have in place to help out our members that are on slower connections such as DSL or dial-up. Also there's no real reason to have hundreds or thousands of KBs of signature images. The 50KB limit on avatars is imposed by the uploader field, just gotta do your best to shrink or compress it ever so slightly more to fit within that filesize.

hmm thats an interesting one, is there any reason why you wouldn't just put all the stuff you wanna see above it? do you wanna decrease loading time or something
