I think you can use the eshop just fine if you have your nands unlinked. I have my nands unlinked and i can access the eshop just fine.

I don't know if I have nands unlinked, I paid a dude to install rxtools for me, I only know that my 3ds autoboot on emunand and if I turn it on holding "L" I can acess the sysnand.

There is a way to verify that?

so, i've been setting up emunand for my brother for the last 5 hours and i just noticed that in data management, in the option under software, theres like a 40 block file with a garbled symbol and an even more garbled name. its all those square characters in several rows,

a̧ͫ̋̏̒̃̈́̐ͤ̀͏̻̲̮̹̼̩̱͔ ̩̞̮͈͓͉͊ͯ̓͜͡b̝̗̟͓̘͎ͯ̅́̔̓ͥ̍͞ī̴̸̝̱̦̑͞ͅt͔̩͈͍̀̀ ̴̡̹͙͔͕̱̠̬͇̤̇ͬͯ͞l̳̬̼̳̙͈͖̙̑̽̊ͦ̅̋̎ͥͥ͡i̛̳̼͓ͩͣ̍͝k̗̖̰͎̱̜ͮͫ̾̎͛͒ͥ̆e͎̻͎̟ͤ̓̈̀̕ ̧̲͔̠̥̣̱͈͂̒̿͒ͫ̾͛͑̐ͅz͍̺̭̫̱̹̼ͩͨ̽̐ͪ̑̎̆͂á̸̢͖̙̙̣͋̓́̆͆̉l̷̘͖̝͔ͥ̔͒́̈́g̼̪̘̹̅̉̄͝ô͏̬̪̲ͅ

anyone know what that is or where it came from? is it just some corrupted game file, or is it relevant to any cfw (its using the very latest beta 2 of rx tools)?

Thanks, i needed the clarification.

Can you explain this more? How can there be 2 (different?) classic modes, one in emunand and one in sysnand? I thought gateway mode is on Emunand and classic mode on Sysnand?

If im at home an update to 9.2 would be no problem. Because since i travel alot, i need the 4.4 offline exploit.
Im thinking of better options, an other flashcard or maybe a custom FW will do better?

I have no idea how you got that, there's only two modes Gateway has (and i'm pretty sure they're for both Emunand and Sysnand). There's Gateway Mode for the multirom card and there's Classic Mode for retail carts.

If you read up on the recent developments there are plenty of ways to boot into Emunand offline.

In order to update my rx tools 10.3 to 10.5, I just go to system setting in emuNAND and just update there? Sorry, I forgot some hacking in 3DS becuase I haven't used in more than a month. Also, is it possible to use my R4gold flashcart on emuNAND 10.5 or can I use it on my sysNAND that is 9.2?

Just go into system settings and update there. Do check if you need to update your firmware.bin. If it tries to boot into Rxtools but stays black, you probably need to update your firmware.bin. It's on Rxtools' Github probably, just copy past it where the previous firmware.bin was.

Hi, I have an O3DS with FW 10.3 and OoThax, and I've been able to get all the homebrew I wanted to work with no problems. I've even installed legit CIAs with NASA and it all works perfectly.

Today I've bought a N3DS XL, and it comes with FW 9.9. It's looks so much better than the old 3DS that I want to get all the stuff I've managed to do on my O3DS onto the N3DS.

Question is: Is it worth forgetting about my O3DS and pass over to the N3DS, or will I lose some functions?
Why would you lose some functions? The only thing that changes is that you probably go from Rxtools to Reinand, which is a different CFW. I don't know about sharing stuff like cia's between CFW.. If anything, the upgrade to N3DS is worth it, I really like the stable 3D and stuff. I think you can just use Nintendo's system data transfer and then set up EmuNAND on your N3DS. I think you can save your saves (heh) using the SaveData program.

Hey guys I searched for a bit and I'm not sure if I get everything correctly.
I bought n3ds xl from a friend and it's mostly fresh he played for a bit and installed newest firmware (10.5.0-30E). I didn't knew then that that's going to be an issue. So basically I can't install any homebrew anymore at the moment? What are my options? Should I buy something like sky3ds?

Well, you can install homebrew, but you cannot downgrade to 9.2 and install unlegit cia's. So I guess you want Homebrew to install illegal games, but unfortunately you're out of luck because you're on 10.5. Your best bet is going with Sky3DS+ as it uses .3ds files and can play all the latest games. It's really like one of the "old" R4 cards, just copy paste it and you're almost ready to go. BEWARE THOUGH: If you want to play online, you'll need a private header. Short explanation: Headers are a piece of code that Nintendo connects to a physical cartridge. It's unique for every cartridge. Nintendo checks this header if you're playing online. It checks if you're the only one with that piece of code online, because ofcourse only ONE physical cartridge is able to play online. Alas, one physical cartridge can't be in two different 3DS' at the same time. Get it? If there are multiple devices with the same piece of code, you'll risk a ban. A private header is a piece of code only you have. You can either buy it (beware of resellers though. They can sell the same thing multiple times) or extract one from a physical cartridge you own using Power Saves. I hope it's a little bit clearer now. Ofcourse, if you never plan on playing online, you don't need to worry about private headers and can just use public headers :)

I don't know if I have nands unlinked, I paid a dude to install rxtools for me, I only know that my 3ds autoboot on emunand and if I turn it on holding "L" I can acess the sysnand.

There is a way to verify that?
Plug your MicroSD card into your computer. If you have TWO folders in your NINTENDO 3DS folder, two different folders with a ridiculously long name with numbers and letters, that means your nands are unlinked.

Thanks, i needed the clarification.

You don't actually need an internet connection to load EmuNAND if you make your 3DS autoboot into EmuNAND. You can do that by using CtrBootManager and then booting into CFW of your choice (rxtools for O3DS and ReiNAND for N3DS). I use CtrBootManager and ReiNAND to autoboot into EmuNAND. No internet connection needed.

This isn't an important enough question for it's own thread and while this may have been asked 500,000 times before, I haven't been here in a while and I have no clue what has been going on and every guide and thread for the 3DS looks like a big mess so I'll ask it here.

So, from what I can tell there has been a new way to downgrade the 3DS. I know my system is compatible (v10.3) but I'm unaware of a few things things. Can somebody tell me if:

-When I downgrade to 9.2, will I be able to use IronHax to install EmuNAND among other things or will I need to empty my wallet for Cubic Ninja/use the browser when I'm online?
-What am I looking for in v9.2 files? (Not asking for a link but I'm not sure the files would look like)
-I keep hearing about "MSET" but I have no clue what that is.

With your situation there is a difference between Gateway Classic on Emunand or on Gateway Classic on Sysnand because you're on 4.4 Sysnand.
This confused me, i thought there are two accessable Gateway Classic modes , either in Sysnand or Emunand.
But if i setup Emunand once, both Gateway and Gateway Classic mode will boot into Emunand ?

If you read up on the recent developments there are plenty of ways to boot into Emunand offline.

I did not follow the developments for a long time. Im using an other forum as reference which was very helpful at the Gateway release. It might be outdated i coudnt find any other offline method for the old3DS. Might pass me a link for that?

Hi, I have an old 3DS XL with GW3D 9.2.0-20E and sysNAND 4.5.0-10E.

What would be the safest and preferably simplest way to get homebrew? Furthermore, I intend to update my emuNAND to 10.5 for compatibility with newer ROMs, however, I am unsure if this will affect my chances at homebrew.

Thank you.

It's exactly because you're on 4.4 Sysnand, as if you have a 9.x Sysnand and you played pokemon on that then there's no problem at all.

I did not follow the developments for a long time. Im using an other forum as reference which was very helpful at the Gateway release. It might be outdated i coudnt find any other offline method for the old3DS. Might pass me a link for that?

Sorry, I'm here to give information, not links.

-I keep hearing about "MSET" but I have no clue what that is.

-You just need a way to get homebrew, which means you can use any *hax.
-A bunch of .cias with a bunch of numbers as their file names.
-That doesn't really apply that much to you, since you're going to get homebrew anyways.

There is no safest or simplest way, because they're all pretty simple and they're all pretty safe. Most hax can get you homebrew.

- IronHAX is a bit outdated. You can use MenuHAX instead. It works with the theme manager from your 3DS. It will allow you to boot into Homebrew. No need for Cubic Ninja. You need to set up Browserhax to boot into Homebrew and then install Menuhax. You can then make your device autoboot into Homebrew/CFW of your choice using CtrBootManager.
I suggest taking a look at this thread: click here
- They're cia files to install the downgrade, if I'm correct.
- MSET is an exploit used for 4.x-4.5 devices, it's kinda outdated.

I suggest taking a look at this thread: click here. Especially the last part (4.1) will allow you to coldboot/autoboot into CFW.

You can update your emunand to 10.5 just fine. Homebrew and Emunand are two completely (well not completely, but they run seperately) seperate things.

Well I could possibly sell my 3ds and buy a brand new one but that would be just losing a bunch of time and money. So let's say I'll be looking to buy Sky3DS+. Can I homebrew 3DS in the meantime and install few european legit cias that are out there? I have 2 original pokemon cartriges so thats probably all I would want to play online with. Should I restrain myself from updating 3DS anymore hoping that someday I could downgrade it?

You're correct, your nands are still linked. You don't have to look into the private folder. Take a look at http://gbatemp.net/threads/the-easy-complete-comprehensive-cfw-guide-for-everyone.408685/ -> follow 3.2. It's about unlinking sysNAND and EmuNAND so you can access the eshop on EmuNAND because it is 10.5, not your syNAND on 9.2 because eshop will then require an update.

If you have original pokemon carts then there's no risk as they are a physical cart of the game.
You can get homebrew with your Sky3DS+, but you can also play unmodified roms on it as well.

What thedude28 also said; your original pokemon cartridges are perfectly safe (they have their own header already). You can use Sky3DS+ to play .3ds files (roms) but no .cia's on the sky3ds. You can however, install legit cia's using FBI in the Homebrew Launcher.
it's no use waiting for an exploit for 10.5. It will be the "Gateway Soon" which means it won't be for at least a couple of months. I bet it will be a year or two before it becomes exploitable, so your only bet to play "illegal" games is sky3ds.

Any keywords would be just as well and i look up myself.
I only found the new nvram feature, but it seems to be for the new3DS.

Well it's a shame I can't squeeze everything from my hardware but I should've done my research. I appreciate your help though thanks!

You can use browserhax to load into homebrew, but you'd need internet connection every time. You can then install menuhax to be able to boot into the homebrew launcher. You can update your emunand to 10.5 just fine. Homebrew and Emunand are two completely (well not completely, but they run seperately) seperate things.

I have noted that you stated homebrew and emuNAND are independent things, however, may I please clarify whether or not I need to boot into emuNAND to install browserhax?

Furthermore, if you were in my position and wanted to do both, would you update emuNAND to the latest version first and then meddle with homebrew afterwards or vice versa?

Thanks once again.

(GW3D 9.2.0-20E and sysNAND 4.5.0-10E)

Browserhax is just an entry point for the homebrew launcher. The only thing you need: an internet connection. This can be in sysnand and emunand. You can enter the url manually or use the qr code for it. Once you're in Homebrew, you can set up Emunand. So it's basically the other way around; you can use browserhax to boot into emunand.

I suggest using themehax and ctrbootmanager. CtrBootManager will allow you to choose to boot into EmuNAND (CFW of your choice) OR boot into the Homebrew Launcher. You can just update your emunand. As I said, they are seperate. You won't influence the other when doing something to one of them.
What do you want to use the homebrew launcher for? Oh, maybe I missed it, but are you using N3DS or O3DS?

Nice, I will try that, after that is safe to use the e-shop on the emunand right? Thank you again its my first time here and you are helping a lot :D
You're welcome. Just read a lot, and I mean A LOT of guides and stuff and you'll be able to understand it. I only downgraded my N3DS like two weeks ago? hahah.
I'm on EmuNAND 10.5 and I can use the eshop just fine. Just one thing: You will probably need to link your NNID (Nintendo Network ID) again in your EmuNAND in order to be able to use the eshop. I'm not sure how I did that but yeah.. Shoot me a message when you can't connect to the eshop. Oh one more thing: You can use the eshop to install updates for your installed cia's in emunand :)
