Oh my lord... With the ignored rules in quote: "Do not post a new thread without searching to see if your question is already answered or discussed. " It got missed, so, I posted it here for future reference.

We need a sticky thread that says "Click here to play backups on 10.4+!" then when you click on it you'll read something that tells you why you can't.

Except you can. If you're willing to jump through a bunch of hoops and hardmod your system, anyways.

i had the same problem once. but it is a super easy fix.just take out all the old homebrew files (if you never had homebrew at all then your fine. if you accidentally updated without updating the ropbin first then you have to fully REMOVE all the homebrew files in the sd card sadly...) then redownload the Starter kit and re do all the steps needed as the starter kit has been updated.idk if it is updated to 10.5.0-30U yet. after you do everything you need. it should work fine. (playing back ups are not possible atm... HOWEVER, you can still go online with many of the games you currently own. Homebrew roms like GBA emu cannot as it wasn't made for online play.)

There's an even easier fix. Sell the system and get a newer one on a lower system version.

that is true but this way is a bit easier on the budget as the starter kit gets updated usually when the newest update has been available for a few days to a few weeks. why buy a BRAND NEW system when you can just plop the program in again to reuse homebrew. Plus you will mostly get about 20-30$ for a used system if your selling it...not worth the amount you pay for it. the only reason to get a new system is if the previous one gets discontinued of all functions like the many consoles before the 3ds/wiiu.

dude. this isn't piracy. it is just REDOWNLOADING A NEWER VERSION. Are you a scroob? cause your kinda acting like one. you really don't get it.. is your only option just to buy another system? what if they do not have the cash to do so? what if the system they have is one they do not want to get rid of like a limited edition system? IF the system is sold away just to get a new one.. they will be wasting more money to just get a system that has a lower firmware than it is to just remove all the homebrew files currently on the system they have and redo all the steps needed to get homebrew to work again.
