I have an old 3ds with 7.1.0 and I can't seem to get browserhax (sliderhax) to work. I did exactly as the guides said but I can't get past the gray screen (I get yellow than gray). I'm a bit newbie at this stuff so any help is appreciated.

A quick search on Google told me that browserhax only works on 9.0.0-20X and above, and that you'll have to use another method to update.

I'm pretty sure that browserhax works on almost all firmwares, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, it says on the site (http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax.php) that it works on all firmwares under 10.1.0 but I can't get it to work. Is there any way I can fix gray screen problem or get Homebrew? (without spending on exploit games, I have OoT btw)

The exploit used works on any firmware, but afaik Smea & co didn't create the payloads for any firmware under 9.0., so OP's only option is to buy CN :/
