Hacking Can't go online in Smash (no header error - 002-0123)

So I've downloaded a US rom of Smash just to test some things while playing online.
Anyhow, I've used my own header (can't remember from what game, but it was a Macronix make - C2), changed the manufacturer byte to AE (OKI Semiconductor, chip ID = AEF80290), changed the ending from 3ds to 3dz, and yet I still get this error.

Any idea what's wrong? Using a Gateway by the way (and Gateway rom patcher for the header stuff).

Edit: Oh wait, I think there are 2 versions of Smash with different manufacturers.
I'll try the others too and update.

OK, now I'm getting error 002-0120. wtf is that lol? it's not the banned error.

Edit 2: oh OK nvm, it was all in Japanese so I couldn't read what it was saying, but using google translate it says that I gotta update to the latest version.

The game from which you ripped the header must have online functionality, otherwise you'll receive a 002-0123 error. No sure about the second error code, but shouldn't due to having wrong manufacturer code.

As a said, manufacturer code shouldn't be the problem. Where did you get the original header? From which game? Does it have online features?

No it doesn't. You need to find another game you have which has a yellow Nintendo networks icon on top right corner of the box.

OK maybe it's your case. But for me, as soon as I change to a header with online feature that 022-0123 error disappears.I'm using a NA header on a JPN game, maybe that's the difference.

In this case Super Smash is AE and the header you are trying to use is C2 then it will NEVER work, unless you use Sky army knife and change it manually.

not for all games. i actually use an AE header on everything else until it bitches out on me. if it does, then i proceed to change it to other headers if it still doesn't work.

I believe I read that some games can come with multiple chips, that would explain that. I use Gateway ROM Patcher and it will ask to change the chip ID if needed, but it rarely needs to be changed from C2. Haven't encountered a game where online doesn't work after being patched with Gateway ROM Patcher yet. Makes me wonder why Sky Army Knife requires it to be changed manually.
