Valkyria Chronicles PS4 remaster coming to the west

SEGA has announced that Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will be heading to the Americas and Europe this spring. This version runs at 1080p/60fps, and will cost 29.99USD. Preorders of the game will come with a limited "Squad 7 Armored Case".

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered features:
• HD “CANVAS” Graphics Engine - The stunning, painterly graphics return, but this time in 1080p/60fps high definition quality! Battles and cutscenes are conveyed like a vibrant tapestry in motion.
• “BLiTZ” tactical battle system - Part overhead turn-based strategy, part RPG, and part real-time 3rd person shooter, the” BLiTZ” system is an innovative mechanic that makes battles simultaneously strategic and action-packed. Players will command and control their soldiers and tanks as they take on the Empire in 30 different battlefronts.
• Memorable storyline – Set against the backdrop of a world war, Gunther, Alicia, Largo and the rest of the fierce members of Squad 7 fight for personal reasons in the name of freedom, and the hope against all odds of liberating Gallia from Empire control, all in the face of the terrible realities of war.
• DLC Included - Besides the core game, Valkyria Chronicles HD includes all previously released DLC: Hard EX Mode, Edy’s Mission, Selvaria’s Mission, and Challenge of the Edy Detachment.

Such a shame the sequels were relegated to PSP exclusive status when the console was damn near dead. End result is that the series kinda slipped into obscurity, cult classic status when it had the potential to be the next Fire Emblem/Advance Wars. Such wasted potential. Maybe this will redress the balance somewhat.

It's a nice game with a good battle system, but too realistic (read : I'm not a good player and I died too often! I stopped trying at mission 4 or 5)

I won't buy it if I know I'll stop playing again due to difficulty :(

Haha I'm not sure "realistic" is the correct word when the best tactic is to run through gunfire with buffed scouts, but yeah the game is quite punishing if you don't adapt to its rules

I had a rough time of getting past that bloody super tank in the desert since I didn't know I could throw grenades into the radiators. Came right down to the wire, last turn before it destroyed my base, and I got one of my units up on top and just went crazy with those grenades, took it down with my final shot in that do or die moment. Beautiful.

Of course I can't get out of the Fire Emblem mentality, so if a unit dies before I can get the medic over, the mission gets restarted.

I quit playing at that level. If this game gets a remake something needs to be done about the masssive difficulty spike at that level.

I do agree that the difficulty can be unforgiving at times (having new enemy units appear out of nowhere, often right next to where my weakest units are), but what do you expect? It's a tactical RPG. It's not supposed to be facerolled. Keep your units under cover, take out priority targets (snipers, tankbusters) and angle your tank's radiator away from enemy units. And, if you wanna game the system, move in short bursts while spamming the action key. Enemy units can't perform suppressing fire while you're aiming, so you can move and start aiming while the enemy raises their weapon, either lessening the amount of suppressing fire taken or completely negating it.

But anywhoo, like Hyro-kun said, I'd much rather they put their efforts into releasing the games they already have in English...

I steamrolled the game pretty well on normal difficulty. Just takes a few missions to get used to how the enemies behave. Then again, real-time and turn-based strategy are a couple of my favorite genres. Playing Darkest Dungeon and loving it at the moment.

Valkyria Chronicles is a very good game none the less. I might return for a playthrough of hard at some point. I'd definitely recommend buying the PS4 remaster if you don't have it for PC or don't have a powerful PC.

I played the original with a friend. This seems to be a nice remaster for someone who hasn't tried the title before.
