Hacking Current way to upgrade from 8.1J N3DS sysNAND?

Before you ask I've Googled this topic to death but the catch is that it's hard to tell if the guides I find are still applicable or the easiest because the scene moves so quickly

So I have a N3DS with 8.1J sysNAND, emuNAND is on 9.4J (though I'm gonna update to 10.4J later today cos why not)

I'm using a Gateway, used to use OoT 3D as an entry point but now I use the DS Profile exploit. I want to use menuhax instead because it's faster but that means I need to access the homebrew channel on sysNAND which I can't do because my N3DS didn't come with a browser

So, what's the best/easiest/most current way of completely upgrading sysNAND from 8.1J to 9.2J or whatever is the most recommended exploitable sysNAND? Like I said I have a Gateway, OoT 3D and an N3DS with the DS profile exploit installed in case these help make it easier at all or anything

You should have updated to 10.3 then downgraded when you had the chance. I did that with my 8.1jp console. The only other option is for you to update using the private update server method for jp n3ds's.
There is a thread/tutorial on here that describes the process, otherwise you are stuck on 8.1 afaik.

Can I not use sysUpdater with 9.2j CIA files? I know it's apparently 'risky' to do that in GW mode, but what if I tried installing RxTools to run sysUpdater? or does that need the browser..

You will brick it, if you use sysupdater in GW mode 100% and you need 9.1/2 fw for Rxtools.

Bummer, looks like I'll have to dig into the private server method now. I would have updated to 10.3 then downgraded like you said but the thing is I quit gaming for MONTHS because of school and I come back and there's all this new stuff like menuhax and 9.6+ emunand on N3DS and all that, basically I've been really out of it

It's emunand only. CN is used with NTR cfw, which is needed to load its payload via the QR code. Not sure about sky3ds

If you have been using a downgraded MSET can't you use RxTools DSProfile exploit to load RxTools

no, it has to be the cartridge as you will need to use NTR to spoof the SOAP responses and trick your 3DS to update from your own private server instead of nintendo's.

Buy a game with 9.0-9.2 update

why don't you use the website and look for a 9.0-9.2 update for japan? good luck finding one.

I've launched cubic ninja that way before but i remember that every time I tried to launch NTR cfw, I ran the exploit and the game crashed and I got the screen but then my console would just hang. every time. so I think I need a legit cart or a sky, which is weird

thats a good idea, i just looked it up, sadly setting up rxtools DS profile either needs a DS mode flash cart (I don't have one that my 3DS supports) or an internet browser

all rightie. any clue why? is this some odd form of gateway clone destruction? I've managed to get a pretty good deal for a sky3ds, but I'm wondering if I could just use the ds flashcart whitelist CIA, use my blue GW card to install rxTools ds profile exploit then use sysupdater in rxTools?
