I was using that all more or less guide which originally had RXtools, but recently it changed to CakesFW.

I changed the cfw to cakes and it works fine but it seems to take up a lot more space than rx did. Everyone elsewhere seems to still be using rxtools.

So which is better? I know of renand or whatever but iirc that's for N3DS only.

Rxtools has region free

CakesFW boots up easier without fail, and is lightweight

Choose your pick, what would you rather have from those two features? Imagine installing an out of region game, and having to deal with using Free Multi Patcher every time, where you have to unwrap the games every time. This is why I stick with Rxtools. If Rei and Cakes had region free, I would go with those two just because they're lightweight.

This exactly. I'd also add that rxTools doesn't support 10.4 emuNAND on N3DS yet so it's annoying for retail carts requiring a high firmware. That's why I use rxTools on my Old 3DS (all features) and ReiNAND on my New 3DS (no region-free but 10.4 emuNAND). We'll see what comes first on New 3DS: rxTools support for 10.4 or ReiNAND support for region-free?

Rei for n3ds, Cakes for o3ds (dont use the latest version if you need ntr, get the one with 10.2 firmlaunch.)

Region issues should not even come into it considering how easy it is to overcome, either with ntr or just making a RF cia.

No one should be putting up with the current rxtools nightlies mess. If you must, then use an old build from sep/oct.

I want everyone to ask themselves this question: How long have we been on 9.5 emunand on N3DS and lived just fine? Now that Reinand has 9.6+ support, everyone acts like they cannot LIVE on 9.5 anymore and it's just completely atrocious. From what I remember, I was able to play just about every game. Yes cryptofixed games was needed, but what game WASN'T cryptofixed out there? Accessing Eshop was as easy as installing NVer cia and using Hans. OR you could just install game update cia's.

Overall it just gets to me when I see people talk bad about Rxtools (Not implying you in this) just because it can't support 10.4 right now. You can either stay on 9.5 and enjoy region free, or update to 10.4 and use Reinand and be able to do the same thing (Game compatibility wise).
(This is just a rant, not aiming this towards you Hayleia)

Moving onto 10.4 + Reinand is nice and feels great to be on 10.4 emunand, but enjoy unwrapping out of region games every time, and putting them back into their folders. You'd have to be perfect and have gotten ALL your games the same region as your console to actually enjoy Reinand's/Cakes' lack of region free.

This doesn't mean I'm telling everyone not to use Reinand, go right ahead nobody's stoppin ya!

Its a bit hypocritical to be fine with needing cryptofixed games and yet go off on a rant about region free everytime someone mentions it.

There's not really any such thing as a better CFW. A bit disrespectful to the devs look at it that way. They all share similar features, and all have their own unique stuff. Rei/Cakes will do 10.4 emunand on N3DS, rxtools currently cannot.

It just depends on what you need on your 3DS.

You didn't read a lot of my posts then. Jk, there is no reason to stalk me.

But anyways, I was extremely annoyed at the fact I couldn't play Triforce Heroes on my New 3DS since it is exactly the kind of game that can use the extra stable 3D, and I posted a certain number of times about it. And why can't I play it would you ask, since a lot of cryptofixed cias are around here as you said ? Because it's a retail cart I use, not a cia. So I had to play that game on my Old 3DS with no 3D even though I had an extra stable 3D device on my side. That's stupid. Or yeah, install a cryptofixed cia then transfer saves when 9.5+ comes, but for some reason, cias are really slow to install on my New 3DS even though it has the same micro SD model as my Old 3DS, so I avoid installing unnecessary cias.

And yeah, I don't care about the eShop. I'm all retail. And updates are available as cias as you say.

So yes, as soon as 9.9+ emuNAND (9.9 being what is needed for Triforce Heroes) is available, I want it. And I actually didn't switch to ReiNAND right away. I already waited for 9.5+ to come on CFW and when it came, I waited again for it to come to rxTools specifically, since that was what I used. But nope, now everyone has it except rxTools so I switched. I'm not saying they are bad devs or anything, just that I'm fed up with waiting.

And region-free is annoying too when it's not here, I completely agree with that. That's why my Old 3DS with MHX (that I play on the Old 3DS because the Circle Pad Pro is tons better than the New 3DS C-Stick) is on rxTools, not on another CFW.

I just don't really like rxtools, imo. I guess reinand is fine, but I'm a cakes guy. I just love how clean leaves the bootup once menuhax has it's image and ctrbootman and cakes are on autoboot. And the boot rate is really consistent (the menuhax rop payload fails to load more than cakes).

In a feature-driven rant, I guess rxtools wins. I just feel cakes being more suitable for kid systems, as the boot sequence feels more "native". For me it's just a matter of build quality and looks as those owners will judge my work by the system responsiveness and ease. In the region free topic, the average user is not really expecting a foreing title to run in a system that used to be not able to load foreing titles. They just understand the system imposed limitations and the system behaves very likely they thought it should. So I don't recall complaints in that area. For those picky special friends there's rxtools and fmp, but not the norm.

In my system I usually have a 3 seconds delay on ctrbootman and keep a working copy of each cfw. I'm lacking reinand's latest builds but meh.
