I figured out my problem, turns out I was using the wrong firmware.bin. I changed it to the right one that I found on that site and it boot up with no problem! Now about that boot splash?

You'll have to wait for her to either readd the boot splash as a different version or to put up her modified ReiNand source code in a github link for people to modify it to their hearts desire.

I made a new version. I added (very basic) checks to make ReiNand halt when using an encrypted (Cakes ones) firmware.bin, or a N3DS firmware on an O3DS and vice-versa, and then I re-added the splash screen (it shows for longer than the brief flash of the official build, and boot isn't delayed at all if the rei/splash.bin isn't on the SD card).
Also, the 10.4 FIRM is now used for N3DS (thanks Cakes!), so you need to get it from the "iso site"

so im using rei 3.1 on a n3ds xl. sysnand is 9.2 (or 9.0? I got the 9.2 update from "that iso site" and i hear the 9.2 might be mislabeled)

Anyways, would i only need the firm file from rei's link, or would I also need the 9.0/9.2 firm bin stored somewhere else?

It's not mislabeled. Just make sure you downloaded the "Full" version and not any of the modified versions and you'll be fine.

The only downside that I can foresee with using the new 10.4 kernel/FIRM is NTR now needs another update for new kernel offsets. Not really sure how to go about getting those, since BootNTR provides no tools. I guess one has to look in IDA..

Yeah, to keep the code clean I just support one firmware.bin for N3DS and one for O3DS. The latest always works with any system version anyway (to put it in perspective, Gateway uses the latest firm even on a 4.5 sysNAND XD)
