so i installed a big cia last night, 3.8gb or so, and it took over an hour... OVER ONE HOUR!

needless to say, it was kind of horrible, so i need a faster sd card!

currently i'm using a sandisk ultra, which only does about 10mb/s write, i tried an ov (chinese brand) one which was faster but the console wouldn't even recognise it D:

speed costs money, but i don't intend to go overboard and am more looking for a good balance between price and performance.

Gambia, The
cia install speed isn't that much dependent on sd card speed.
keep in mind that this is an on device copy, in other words you will only get half the nominal speed (read a byte, write a byte, not constantly reading and writing at the same time).
i've heard that devmenu/bigbluemenu is supposed to be way faster than the open source implementations, though.

I bought 3 of these Integral class 10 cards yesterday, cheaper than the SanDisk class 4 cards. Maybe you can find the same ones locally.
that's a standard size sd!

Next step up is this anything faster won't make a difference when used on a 3DS and the transfer rate on PC is very good.
ah the extreme, i've seen these. any other brands you would recommend, or stick with sandisk?

have you tried a really fast card before and did you notice an increase in cia install speed? fast transfer from pc is nice, but the game installing on the console is what's taking forever.

Sandisk and Samsung are the only brands I trust.

i've got a samsung 16gb evo coming soon, from something else, i might try to dg and install cfw on my other n3ds, and make sure there's a difference in cia install speed before spending money on a faster card :)

Whoops, sorry I misread!

I have a 64GB Samsung in mine, those were for my kids. However, integral have been around for a long time and have plenty of experience. 3 Samsung or SanDisk class 10 cards would have more than doubled the cost.

class 10 sd cards are highly recommended. Not even because of cia installing speed, because of better emunand speed. You can wait 5 minutes more to install a warez game, but the slow reaction speed of the system is what really can get on somebody nerfes. Especially on people like me that are used to SSD's speed. And btw, uhs is not supported for the 3ds (as I know) so you don't need these still expensive uhs-3 sd cards, class 10 is enough. The difference between class 4 (stock 3ds sd card) and class 10 is very noticeable

N3DS can take advantage of the speed I have a 64GB uhs3 card and I love it much faster than the class 10 I used to have.

Sandisk is reliable. The problem is that it is so darn popular, so it is bootlegged all over the place. Mom&pop shops that sell on ebay and what not end up with fakes all the time and they don't even know it (so it's not their fault). Never purchase in, or order from China. In the US, I use Newegg or TigerDirect and always wait until the card goes on sale.

Another thing to consider is that the 3ds hardware itself isn't fast. You will see no difference between a 60MB/s card and a 95MB/s card. But plug that sucker into a USB 3.0 reader and 3.0 port on your computer...

Edit: With that in mind, look for full specs. Don't get suckered in to a card that says "Up to 60MB/s" only to find out later that it's talking about read speed, while its write speed is like 10MB/s.

The amazon links I gave him are from sandisk not a third party seller.
