Hacking So, is downgrading for Emunand/CFW/piracy worth it?

I have a n3DS 10.3 and would like a free way to get free games.

Is downgrading to 9.2 a good idea? What are the brick risks?
If you separate NANDs can you still install AGB_FIRM games?
How easy is it to set up an emunand? Which is easiest to do?
How do I block any updates?
If I want to update to 10.3 how would I do so?
How do I go about setting up a 9.5 emunand?
Which CFW is best?

And overall, is it worth it for someone who just wants unsigned CIAs?

I downgraded 4 3DS, two being a new 3DS. And setup each one with Rxtools. It's worth it I'd say.

is it worth it? This is kind of a loaded question. A few things to note:

Is downgrading to 9.2 a good idea? This is really up to you to determine, there is some risk of bricking, but it's relatively low if you're careful and follow everything through step by step.
What are the brick risks? The biggest one that comes to mind is doing a sysupdate with a faulty set of .cia's (either wrong region, or wrong console, although a corrupted file is still a possibility as well. I see that you're listed as US, but if for some reason you happen to have a Japanese console, there's also a specific (pretty well documented) cia file that you'll have to be careful NOT to update).

How easy is it to set up an emunand? Which is easiest to do? This depends on how you do it. Personally I think utilizing Gateway's tools are easiest, but there's guides to do it without as well...
How do I block any updates? This is somewhat of a loaded question. You actually DON'T want to block updates coming to your emunand, only your sysnand. The easiest way to do this is to set up your system in a manner that it boots directly to emunand. This can be done by utilizing homemenuhax.
If I want to update to 10.3 how would I do so? This is in system settings - do note that I did see that nintendo's update system might actually be down for maintenance at this point. If you have to wait, I'd double check that they haven't released a new system update...

Which CFW is best? This is personal preference. I've found Cake's to be easier to set up, but rxTools has some more tools that can be used...

From what you state then its certainly worth, "Free way to get free games" = CFW ,
no gateway, no sky, online play, unsigned cia, undub rom, model patched rom, languange translated rom, cheats, and many more for free.

I personally suggest rxTools running emunand 9.5 ( currently not >9.5 is not supported) + NTR CFW (optional)

you can just install hbl.cia then access it from your home menu.

emunand 9.5 with 9.5 only games = surely will work.

Its not possible, you can only play .cia roms with CFW. .3DS roms are not supported, you'll need gateway for that.

I should have said .CIA instead of roms to make it clear. XD

I don't know what to do. I System Transfered my O3DS (and lost all SD data, but I had a backup from september, some Mii Plaza data was lost unfortunately) and then downgraded it.

I'm wondering if I should downgrade my transfered 10.3 N3DS... I renamed sysUpdater to boot.3dsx and it seems to have loaded after some retries. Will I lose Mii Plaza data completely? Does 9.5+ emuNAND seem it'll be supported? Will I be stuck without eShop at 10.3?

If you just want to play .3DS roms on Latest firmware then sky3ds+ is the way to go. But you can't play .cia (eshop games) on sky3ds+. You'll need cfw or gateway for that.

Downgrading and using gateway card allows you to play all 3DS games ( .3DS (Cartridge game), .CIA(eshop game) , even modded roms).

If you're using sky3ds+ then you'll need private headers to play online.

I've been reading this forum for a week, but with all those threads about N3DS bricking... I've done my best to prepare a clean SD. I don't know if I'll be able to return to my current config if something goes wrong (I have a NAND backup though, from before O3DS>N3DS transfer at 9.0.
