Hacking Well, it WAS working... N3DSXL + CakesFW

First time setting all of this up. I was following this guide here, the CakesFW version as a friend told me he really liked it:

Got through II: Setting up the Emunand.

Had been using browserhax to launch HBL to launch CakesFW to boot into emunand as I was too excited that it worked to do the mset downgrade just yet, I wanted to enjoy the system a bit first.

Got Xenoblade installed and it worked great. Took the mSD card out and to my PC to put a 6 or 7 other titles in an unrelated folder I'd made just to house .CIA's for FBI to install. Put the card back in my N3DSXL, launched HBL through browserhax, go to launch CakesFW and it just sits on a black screen after flashing a few colors really quickly. After about 40 minutes of black screen I just held the power button and restarted. Tried a few more times, same result. Not quite sure where I went wrong :/.

Does that mean I just start over at step 1, or are there steps that carry over and I'll mess things up by starting from the beginning?

No, you don't have to start anything over again.

There are different CFW's that work in N3DS (CakesFW, rxTools nightlies, Reinand and PastaCFW).

They are just files you copy and paste to your SD card and boot them from Menuhax, no need to delete anything you have previously done to get another CFW.

PastaCFW always goes to a funky looking top screen and freezes.
rxTools doesn't show up in HBL at all. Couldn't use the nightlies link because it says this user has generated too much traffic so I tried the 2.6 link but as stated, doesn't show up.
CakesFW works maybe 1 out of 5 reboots. Managed to get it to run again this morning and install the games I'd had in the folder but only 4/6 showed up. I believe the other two were not region swapped so they show up as blank spots in my lineup.

So I'm left with 2 questions:
How can I remove CIA's I've installed with FBI?
How can I get more consistent CFW loading?

Also, my understanding is that with CakesFW when you launch the CFW there's no noticeable change in FW version in system settings. Is having loaded the CFW the same as having loaded emuNAND? And if so, how do I update the emuNAND from there?

rxTools for n3ds is only the nightly, the 2.6 version dont support it, look for a mirror here.

• Still don't know how to uninstall CIA files.

If it flashes red and black then you made a loop, it's just a problem with menuhax when your sys and emu are linked since your system reboots when loading cfw but reboots again as menuhax is activated again cause cfw to be loaded and loops this way until you stop it or crashes

I don't know guys but a lot of guys coming up the way . I.e. Upgrade from lower firmwares upto 9.2 a lot of the recommendations are to use the 10th of that months night lies for Rxtools, and the 6 or so times I've wEnt that root it's never failed me.....can't post a file name at the mo coz I'm on mi air pad and my stuffs on my pc.....but pretty sure it was the tenth month......it can only work.......or not.

Never installed menuhax. Still using browserhax to launch CFW's.

Edit when I first got to 9.2 I used Rxtools 2.4 and 2.6 especially 2.6 coz you can inject fbi into health and safety app then use it to load everything .but wen all settled settled on the nightly builds of Rxtools was the one hosted on Dropbox and was at the very bottom....I remember no problems ever,

I was told that 2.6 doesn't work on N3DS, Bothyboy.

Running cdn_firm.py does absolutely nothing. Python is installed, a window pops up and disappears. No files created.

Well I don't know cos if you read I said I was upgrading from mostly 2.4. Have never degraded yet.....think it may be fixed for n3ds......pretty sure I read that...

So I messed it up... I had apparently not set up emuNAND properly. I tried ticking the emuNAND box in CakesFW and it told me I wasn't setup properly for it. So I went to emuNAND9 and told it to setup my whole card, it couldn't find starter.bin so it asked me a bunch of questions.

I had it format the card and copy sysNAND to emuNAND just fine. On reboot it tells me it can't find the mSD card. If I take the card out, reformat it in FAT32 and put the files back on the 3DS can see it again but that of course starts me over at the beginning... I've tried several times to do this and it's just the same result each time. Reboot from setting up emuNAND and the 3DS can't find the card any longer...
