Hello there,

First of all, I don't have that problem. But since the downgrade people keep popping up in my tutorial complaining about rxtools not booting no matter which version. It gets stuck with red bottom and black top screen. I did not ever hear of that problem before the new downgrade methods came.

I want to know what could be the reason.

I suspect the downgrades still being buggy. Or is black/red a common issue and happened before hand? Never heard of it, never experienced it myself. Either it freezes with black or it shows some kind of error.

Could it be that the downgrades are not completely failsafe and work for some while they don't work for others? Thanks.

People report that their device reboots when selecting rxtools in ctrbootmanager. They have to hold the button they specified in menuhax to skip it, otherwise they'll just get thrown back into Bootmanager or it'll freeze.
Then again it works for other people who downgraded. I wonder what the heck the difference between the downgraders where it works and the downgraders where it don't works is.

I have had this happen, I just reboot the system since it seems to just be a crash.
I can get it to consistently do it by booting into emuNAND then running the homebrew launcher via an installed cia and running an app, Then when exiting the app it will take me to CTR Manager which will then crash with that red bottom when booting RxTools.

If you go to the options in CTR Manager and try to power off from there it throws an error which I can't remember right now so IDK.

Great tutorial for N3DS BTW it came in very handy. :D

It's a new bug that was not existent before downgrades so I blame the downgrades. The device seems to reboot when selecting rxtools and then crashes because it wants to load menuhax again. People reported that they have to first load menuhax, then select rxtools and then hold the button to skip menuhax and it goes into emunand. That's not how it normally works, normally that would bring you into sysnand. I have no idea what is going on but there are at least ten people in my thread who have that problem and at least ten more who don't and all were downgraders.

I downgraded my N3DS and have it working as it should, I have to go out of my way to make it crash like that.

If I ever get sent back to CTRm via a homebrew I just reboot since I know it will crash but other then that it all works fine.

See? That's what I'm talking about.
Either the other people are all understanding the same step wrong and make the same mistake, or downgrades are buggy on some devices and not buggy on others.

Could be a problem with specific units? like how Sony systems can't be downgraded past what they shipped with so maybe certain 3DS systems have issues with firmwares they where never supposed to be on?

IDK just guessing here and even then my system shipped with 9.6 so I guess I just debunked my own theory.

My system is EU and I got the same problem. I didn't have to downgrade, I was already on 9.0. Holding the buttons to skip menuhax did the trick for me as wurstpistole said earlier.

I asked in my thread, Hopefully people will answer. There must be a reason for that and it definitely has to do with downgrading because I never heard of red/black screen crashes in combination with rxtools before.

Seems we now have one report of it happening without a downgrade.... Bad SD? needs new payload? new payload broke it?bad download for one or more files? IDK.

EDIT: When this error happens do people press "a" to boot RxTools? I recall it crashing when I did that but it boots fine if I let the timer count down.

this is happening to me too, for two of my o3ds's with 32gb sd cards.

Make sure your NANDs are unlinked then boot into emuNAND by holding whatever button you set in menuhax(L by default) after going into RxTools but before it tries to load CTR manager or whatever again, Once in emuNAND just change the theme to break the menuhax that was installed in the emuNAND which was causing the loop/crash.

Yep, that's it. Probably had menuhax before on sysnand and then it got taken over to emunand, that's causing the crash. Menuhax doesn't belong in Emunand, change themes once and the issue's gone.

Its a problem with the menuhax in your emunand, when you boot the 3ds it launch the menuhax on your sysnand, then it load rxtools via boot menu and then launch the menuhax on your emunand. Solution for me: go to emunand and select any theme, it will clean the menuhax.
