MOTHER was the first game in the series, it has quite a few similarities to EarthBound, but it's not really the same game.
It was localized but never released because the localization was too large to put on a normal NES cartridge, and would cost more to manufacture than it would make for Nintendo.

Sorta? I mean, they released it on Wii U VC in the west not too long ago, but they haven't really done anything else with MOTHER/EarthBound: Beginnings, or anything relating to it.

On a side note, do you know of any good ways to bypass blocks at work? Lots of stuff is blocked here. Proxies don't work and VPN's don't work. What do do?
